How Can We Make the Most of Olio to Get the Best Deals?
Ask a Question
I am an avid user of Olio, I mostly get the food that is available. My best olio freebie was a huge shoulder of pork joint.
With the cost of living having an affect on shopping habits, do you use or would you use Olio ?
Olio is rubbish where we live, never anything on it. Hardly anyone uses it because it's so bad here.
MrsCraig thats a shame, maybe keep an eye on it and as it grows and more people sign up it will be better.
SaveMeSunday most people here use the community page on fb if they have free stuff to give away.
Live in London so loads of great stuff up for grabs my end. Never got a pork joint but did get loads of chicken the other night. All freezes fine. Yep, I Love Olio.
A person in our village uses it she goes and gets the food and then she puts it on a local Facebook group to share it out with anyone who wants it. We had a few bits off there
Would someone like to explain what this is please. Not everyone has heard of some of the things mentioned in topics.
Lynibis Olio is basically a website where people put food they don't want and people can collect it from them if they want to. Think about it like eBay for food but for free!
dealfinder006 oh ok. Thank you for explaining. Maybe I am over fussy but I would be very worried using that as I would always be wondering if the food was too near bbe date or not kept at correct temperatures etc. I would hope it is closely monitored but not sure how it could be.
Lynibis for the majority, they should have the bbe eat/sell by date on it, correct temperature is harder to check, but I'm guessing it'd be kept there.
Been using Olio for ages and also use To good to go as well .If anyone can suggest any others thanks in advance .
Hey loads of LD'ers use OLIO and we've featured them in our News section here. You can see what they got and how much they saved. Also tonnes of stories about Too Good To Go:
Iv stated using olio lately. i picked up a few non food freebies that were great! I'm yet to pick up any food but i certainly will. its a great app i love it.
yes i use this weekly, a nice lady that lives 2 mins drive from me gives away all the short date stuff from a local tesco, a lot of it is veg, bread and cakes, have to be quick to get the meat..
I'm trying to encourage it in my area.
I know some people have joined as I've recommended it. Yay!
I often give things away on there and have collected a few things too.
Sadly I personally can't be a food waste hero at the moment, due to travel and other things, BUT I do really appreciate those that are and have to pay to travel out of town to collect some of the items. (I don't think many businesses if any in our town are on it, YET!)
DeBunny if you go on the app and click the share tool it gives you a template to share on line. this last few weeks i got a john rocha ceramic jug, some cookie cutters, a bt hub and a football scarf!!
SaveMeSunday I've written an online article locally for it too and I signed up to be a Community Ambassador and they sent me lots of leaflets and posters to hand out Which I've put in with some items I gave away free on other sites.
I do love Olio I have got some lovely things from it. I have never got any food from it but I have got things for my kids from it.
