Everything will reopen when Boris runs out of cash to pay 80% of wages. And to think we had to work longer because there was no money for pensions!

If the government did nothing there would be very few needing pensions

Imnotcheap What I meant was The Government could find NO money to pay pensions so they MADE some of use work 6 years longer before becoming entitled but all of a sudden they can find millions to pay those not allowed to go to work.

lilyflower i am not entitled to receive furlough so at the moment I don’t have any income, however its not going to be just handed to us, imagine how much the taxes will increase once this is all over?!

AliceBell64468 It was unfortunate for you that you got a new job just at the wrong time, I don't know why a cut off date, if you were working it shouldn't matter who or how long you had worked for them. As for taxes no-one will be able to afford them. Anyway how is the hair?

lilyflower yes, very annoying as my previous employer won’t help either so I’m in a bit of a sticky situation! And the hair seems to still be on my head lol! I’m never using that hemp hair mask again!!

It is ironic that the working class, the key workers and construction workers who not get 80% pay will pay the tax too, pandemic punishment...

I think schools will re open now in September by its looks like. All exams in May and June got cancelled, July and August are holiday months anyway.

After the Whitson holidays in June is my bet.

Think they will go back before the summer holidays , as I think there are many loose ends and things to sort out with this years pupils and classes. Think by then also they will be getting pressured by the parents to sort something

I think school and other re-openings could well be staggered over the coming 6-12 months. As I see it the government want to control the virus almost like a tap, to stop the NHS being overwhelmed.

What you cannot do is have a total lockdown and think the virus will go away. Remove the lockdown and it will be back with a vengeance.

Once the NHS is coping, turn on the virus tap by removing some restrictions. Then when the NHS gets near capacity turn off the tap again by re-imposing restrictions. So basically controlling the number of patients to manageable levels.

Meanwhile work on developing a vaccine.

For those under 70 think it’s more about when you contract the virus rather than if. Once you’ve had it, it will build your immunity. Unless of course it kills you first time around, but that’s unlikely if you are healthy.

For those over 70 and/or already in poor health if they can avoid contracting the virus until after there’s a vaccine available so much the better.

I agree with you Johnny, as I mostly do, but can't see why we would get it if we stay indoors unless it is in the air and the government aren't telling us.

Hi Lynibis

Hopefully whilst you are indoors you are very unlikely to contract the virus. That said we all get post delivered, or food delivered, or have to go out to get food. It’s impossible not to touch things other people have also touched. Even with gloves on.

I am wary of my home deliveries and don’t handle anything that arrives for at least 48 hours. Parcels get kicked across the floor to wait it out.

I’ve been self isolating for the last two weeks having just returned from a winter break in the Far East. Glad the isolation is over. I did my first proper supermarket food shopping today and went to my local Sainsbury’s.

Although everyone was trying to keep two metres apart it was almost impossible even though I went early and the store wasn’t very busy. I noticed a lot of the shoppers were wearing disposable gloves.

The only thing on my list I couldn’t get was bread flour.

I really didn’t feel safe in there and used anti-bacterial gel on my hands immediately I got back to my car. I think I’m going to use the mini Waitrose at my local petrol station instead in future and just buy from whatever they have. 99% less people. Probably safer.

Johnny I have been doing same. I have only been out 3 times (10 minutes) in nearly 3 weeks. I was aghast when local shop owner took milk from me to bar code it and handed it back. I asked if it was necessary and he said yes. Luckily I was wearing gloves so once indoors immediately wiped gloves with anti bac and then whole milk bottle and surface it stood on. Won't be going there again if he is flaunting 2 metre rule and touching the produce.

Lynibis well we won't get it if we stay in,but when we are allowed out,we can still catch from someone who doesn't even know they've got it... but then others get it,and it starts all over again,i think wuhan are gambling with the death dice again,by starting to let them out already🤔😡🤬

Caz2 Yes. Not even my temperature was checked at the airport, nor was I given anything recommending I self quarantine for two weeks. I guess some people don’t do it at all.

I don't know about the other places but the schools in Scotland are not opening again in 2 weeks. There has been nothing in the Scottish news to suggest that they are reopening any time soon. My husband and I are teachers and updated regularly by the local council and the unions. Schools are staying closed. What was said by someone is that opening them after Easter would help to return to normality but Nicola Sturgeon has said that isn't happening so not sure where you have seen that info.

I'd be surprised if they opened before September. All bugs pass through schools like wildfire and if the teachers get it and don't survive who will do the teaching then? 🐞

The schools are not reopening anytime soon! Whilst children don't seem to be getting the virus as bad, children are known for being super spreaders of illness, especially nursery/primary school children! Given how many pupils are in a class and the fact that you can't keep them 2 metres apart in the classroom and it was in the news earlier that a pupil in one of the key hubs has tested positive for the virus, the govt will not be opening the schools until it is safe to do so. As long as the lockdown is in place then schools will be closed.

I personally dont think they will reopen now until september. Some places may open just for exams such as GCSE and Alevels but only for those taking them. If they dont open for exams sooner then those taking then will probably be doing them between september and October at latest.

I don't think they will open until September. When a local Nursery closed down they had the opinion that it could even be beyond than that. It's going to devastate the usual calendar. Maybe we will all get instructions on a week-to-week basis. I honestly don't think any parent will send a child back to school unless they are absolutely certain there is no risk.

Pandemic usually last a year 12 month, but we slowed it down and they are talking about 18 months till vaccine and they can not predict when the peek will come...no clue when the schools will open, but better not till everything not get sorted properly.

I know they are keen to get them open ASAP but it wouldn't be wise, although you probably couldn't get the majority of the workforce back to work without taking the kids off their hands
