Oven Glass Door Exploded
Other
So I was watching TV, maybe 30 minutes after cooking something in the oven when I heard an almighty noise come from the kitchen.
I walked in and found that the glass from the oven had exploded - shattered everywhere.
It's a big old oven too, so that's not going to be cheap to fix!
I've searched and it seems it can just happen, for no apparent reason. There was nothing that should have caused it.
Luckily it happened with nobody in there. The amount of times I've had my face up near the oven looking through the glass...
Anyone else had this happen?
There's no warning signs, but try and be careful around ovens - they might explode!
Im sure they shouldnt just explode thats really dangerous, my little girl is always out the kitchen when im cooking or cleaning. Id contact the manufacterer and see what they say about it.
I googled it and it is a thing. They can explode for a number of reasons, including when they're just cold and not doing anything! It really seems random. Quite scary though.
I'm thinking about contacting the manufacturer but it is an old oven, and I didn't buy it, so I doubt they'll do anything unfortunately.
Blimey that sounds quite scary. I have only had the glass slip out before when the seal went. Which is surprisingly easy to fix as they sell the sealant just for this job.
This happened a few times where i used to live in a military married patch, the navy housing provided the ovens and i knew of a few people who had the doors explode. Really scary stuff!! Glad noone got hurt!
It's meant to be quite rare so it's surprising to hear it happened many times all in one place at similar times!
MeestairChrees in fairness, it was an identical oven in each house, so it was obviously a problem with that specific oven..
