Parents Finally Being Held Responsible

BBC News - Covid: Parents fined for children breaking lockdown rules
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-54791146
It's about time and should be national in my opinion.
Do you think that the guardians of children playing up should be fined?
Yes. There is not enough discipline in most families today. Whenever I ask a parent why they don't enforce the rules (after they have whined and moaned about their kids behaviour) their pathetic reply is usually 'he/she won't do as I say'. Well, don't be surprised when you have rebellious teens.....in my day we weren't allowed to have attitude, nor hormones!!!!
I think part of the problem is that 'modern' parents want to be their children's friend ergo they won't say no to them. It doesn't promote adherence to rules of any sort inside or outside the home. They clearly don't realise that parents are there to guide and advise (and many other things too, parenting is no easy job!)
tumblespots You can see that by how kids play up in supermarkets and other places.
I can see how different generations deal with their children in different ways, but someone has to be held accountable.
As you say, there is no 'No' these days. I see it with people in my family. The youngsters aren't given any discipline at the moment. And as Lynibis says, they're going to be a lot worse in their teens and beyond.
TheChimp Yes, we all have a scary future ahead (in our dotage) when they are the generation in charge!!
tumblespots you can be your childs friend aswell as showing whos boss. My son and daughter are around the age of these kids. She also showed me them being proud of the fine. I have always laid law down in my house do anything wrong and i will chop your hands off and report you my self. Parents are to blame for alot of the behaviour of the above 10s today.
Perhaps parents should also be held responsible for their 18 - 35 year old children too ?
Many who still live in the same family home and inevitably bring home whatever they catch whilst flouting Covid rules .
TheChimp Perhaps , but someone has to take responsibility for them as they clearly are incapable of responsible behaviour as we see daily on the news and in the papers .
Good idea. I got grounded when I was 19 (still living at home) because I was didn't come home until 4am one Saturday night/Sunday morning. (It wasn't my fault, the car driver wouldn't move from the comfy chair)
Golfforall my oldest nearly 19 and not once have he been in trouble because boy wouldnt he know and hes twice size of me. And not once have my kids left this house in lockdown
TheChimp No I don't but it doesn't stop wealthy people from breaking the rules. Some would rather pay the fine than follow the rules.
Am glad they have done this a lot were from my area but parents have allowed out again. Am dreading Friday night when it’s bonfire
I totally support things like this. Too many parents these days just let their children do as they please and take no responsibility for their bad behaviour.
I think it would be more effective to give the children and parents punishment some would see it as them personally getting off Scott free.
My teen moaned a bit about not being able to do things but didn't even suggest rebeling against the rules because she understands how important they are
This is one of those debates that could go on and on.... I think that there is a lot of Lazy Parenting these days... and believe me when I say, my daughters are included in this! I do not, absolutely do not, believe in smacking, hitting a child wether it be a tap on the back of hand or bum! BUT, I do believe in tone of voice!
So many parents, including my daughters let their children get away with all sorts because they don’t want to deal with the screaming shouting crying child.... so it’s easier to say nothing whilst they sit looking through Facebook etc... Same with lockdown, parents don’t want to put up with tantrums etc... so they let the children/teens do as they please.... then blame everyone else! Parents need to take responsibility, and behave like parents!
So true my father never lifted a hand to me but you knew when he gave you the look it was time to sit down and shut up
Rather than a fine maybe we should follow the harsh treatments of the Indonesians.
Coronavirus Indonesia: People caught breaking the rules forced to dig graves and get into coffins
We are a civilised democratic society ?
Easy in China to control the virus , do what you are told -or else !
Sadly with democracy comes mindless idiots ! Control the virus the Chinese way or be democratic about it and let our mindless youth spread it ?
Not sure which side I come down on - but a choice will be coming very shortly .
