Parking on Pavements

Ask a Question

Should parking on pavements be banned?

Drivers in Scotland will face a 100 pound fine for parking on pavements or dropped kerbs, is that a good idea?

Yes I think all uk should implement this. When buggies and wheelchairs have to go in the road to get round cars it’s dangerous.

Just tow them or bring back the clamp for pavement parkers

It's not just prams and wheelchairs that have problems, sometimes it's impossible to even walk safely on the path besides these vehicles. Unfortunately I think we are all guilty of the offence and we've all at sometime parked on the pavement

This is annoying, I have a friend with cerebral palsy and she walks with a thick metal walking frame and when people park on pavements I have to help her down from the path and stay with her whilst we walk on the road and can get back on the path. Not only is it daft it stupidity at its finest.

I think it should be banned yeah, it’s not fair on people with mobility issues who can’t use the pavement. I know is some select circumstances there’s not much alternative but most of the time it’s just people being lazy

The trouble is when some large cars like SUVs don't park slightly on the pavement they can block minor roads for buses, vans and other SUVs to get through including critical emergency services where seconds wasted could be the death of someone. I just think this could lead to worse issues. The population density of the UK is ridiculously high nowadays and we can't really cope with oversized vehicles.

I really think taxation on larger vehicles needs to be much, much higher. Width of vehicles should be banded and some roads simply have signs stating no parking for cars of certain width banding and greater. Then people will know that unless they have parking off the road they will have to choose a car compatible with where they live.

Banned outright, no. There are so many tiny streets that you HAVE to park on the curb, otherwise other vehicles can't get passed. If only road parking allowed, there's lots of places emergency vehicles can't get passed. Then people will be complaining about that.

If you look, most cars aren't parked on the curb for the fun of it, there's usually a good reason or very limited space. It's all very good banning it, but if even new build estates are allowed to build tiny roads with inadequate parking, what are people supposed to do exactly?

If the government banned it but said... Ok from today all new builds must have future proof parking and we're going to look at investment for parking near places that need it. Maybe. Otherwise it's completely stupid to outright ban it with no solutions in place.

Yes it should be banned. It's not OK for disabled people to be forced into the road. People with prams or young kids either

Absolutely the worst especially now I'm in a wheelchair, having to go on the road. Dangerous.

100% it should be banned. Sometimes people park unnecessary on the whole of the pavement and you can’t pass through. Not a thought for prams or wheelchairs users. Plus the pavements are not meant for heavy loads so they get damaged and never repaired.
