If Your Partner Won the Lottery, Would they....
Other
You buy 2 lottery tickets with your own money and you give one to your partner.
Your partner wins £5m.
Do you think your partner would:
a) Keep quiet and not even tell you
b) Immediately give you half the money, no questions asked
c) Give you a lot less than half
d) Keep all the money, but buy you things if they thought it was reasonable
e) Bank their winnings, and walk out of your relationship
Write down your answer, and then ask your partner what they would actually do. The answer might surprise you!
If the tables were turned and you were the winner, what would you do?
A great topic that made me chuckle - on a previous topic I admitted that I was the sort of person that handed back poker winnings to friends, at the end of the night, so my answer is pretty obvious. Will enjoy reading the answers on this post - hope you will also share your own opinions...
I thought she would immediately give me half, but no, she would keep all the money and I’d have to ask if I wanted something. And I bought her ticket!
All hypothetical of course as I don’t play the lottery. I‘m still hurting though!
At least she wouldn’t dump me!
What would I do if I won?
B) give her half the money, but then again maybe
A) keep quiet and not tell her. Especially now I know she’s a D) - keep all the money to herself and make me ask to buy the stuff I want !
Johnny I am surprised she told the truth as I think lots of people would say b) to your face but go for c), d) or e) if they actually won!
I think you could only do a) if you also did e) as it would be very hard to spend any without it being noticed.
As for me I could keep the whole lot as I have no partner lol. But of course my sons and grandkids would get most of it with just 1 million put aside to keep me for at least 10 years in a care home if/when the time came!
angemski LOTS of money brings out the very worst in people.
It can do for sure. But some of the nicest people I've met are very wealthy and polite. Others are just unnecessarily arrogant and rude.
Personally I think sudden wealth (like winning the lottery, or inheriting a huge sum) would destroy many relationships. Rather like how many families fight over money and possessions after a death.
Johnny I have to agree with you on this one - a recent post had me retelling a conversation with a gentleman of considerable wealth. We had just observed a shocking tantrum at a marina, where I worked. The man had recently acquired some inheritance but he was always complaining about everything. The gentleman said there was nothing so rude as 'New Money' - it brought insecurities and magnified poor manners. Not true in all cases but it does happen.
He would immediately give me half. We have joint finances, so would share no matter which one of us won. Plus we wouldn't see it as I bought it with my money as it is our money.
Hi, yes I think many people would like to believe their partner's promise to give them half, but when it actually came to it....would they?
i dont have my "own" money, i am married all money is ours and we have joint account etc so we would just lodge cheque to our joint account and live the high life
I’m certain it would just go in the bank to share. I know he would treat himself to a very expensive bike, his bikes are more valuable than our cars. We’re not into status symbol vehicles but on this occasion I would buy a non essential vehicle. I’ve always loved Morgan’s but fear now that would be totally impractical for me, I’m not very mobile, so could be awkward getting in and out!
I do not know about others, but I am married and all of our accounts are joint accounts. In case any of us win the lottery, the money would go directly to our account without any division as well as our wages every month, everything is decided as a family.
None, if i bought 2 tickets it would be from our money and therefore would be our tickets. So we would win the money. I asked my wife she said ‘Id tell you straight away weve won the lottery, why are you asking me that everything we have is ours’
I asked my husband yesterday and I’m please to say that my comments were correct, yay I know him so well!!!
