Who Should Pay?

Ask a Question

Now that the world has entered a recession who should pay to bail out the world again?

For me it should be all the millionaires and billionaires in the world, as it was the world that made them fortunes I think that governments around the world should take back 50% of their wealth to balance the books.

What do you think?

I reckon that it should be James Dyson, Richard Branson and Mike Ashley.

I agree with you on Branson, what a cheek asking the tax payer to shore up his airline when he has a net worth of half a billion +.😡

Two problems with that theory .

1 . Wealthy people are in the main "wealth creators " . They employ literally millions of people , who in turn add to the economy .

2 . Take all the billions from all the billionaires and it would be a drop in the ocean , certainly nowhere near balancing the books .

Take away the incentives for "wealth creators " to create wealth , and trouser their chunk ! Then millions of folk would find themselves without a job within months .

Ever wonder why "Hard left Labour " never get a sniff of power ? The idyllic world they and you believe in just could never happen, who would create the wealth ? Nice thought though .

Nice idea but would never happen. A good start would be to make the rich and big companies pay their fair share of tax

You can't just expect billionaires to pay for the problems we have created. I see people all the time who export most of their money damaging the economy but they are still happy to complain about the problems they have created, lack of money for the NHS, Police, road repairs etc. Ultimately if we keep sending our wages out of the country, the government is forced to borrow to maintain living standards. Personally I feel they should never have borrowed, they should have allowed the actions of people to cause a recession, drop living standards and create a shock to the population regarding their massively declining living standards and try to force them to act responsibly. That way we wouldn't end up with huge debts and have some understanding of the necessity to run a sound economy. The point is if you allow the UK economy to go into massive recession the pound drops in value and disposable income drops considerably so it becomes both cheaper to make products in this country and more difficult to import both helping to correct the economy. As it is we have now created huge debts for our children and grand children to deal with.

Many people always look for someone else to blame when really the blame rests with them. People who haven't exported most of their wages are still responsible for those debts that others have caused is that fair? Seems unfair to have a money grab from other people and yet the majority carry on doing massive damage to the economy.

China. They are the ones who started this whole thing off by unleashing the virus onto the world.

We have built up huge debts over many years probably about 40 years yes in recent times we have increased those debts but only by a small amount. I think we were approaching 2 trillion of debt before this pandemic. It was something like 80-90% of gdp but because of the pandemic has now gone over 100%. Many assets have been sold too in order to bring in more funds so we have stripped assets and borrowed in recent years. Consequences of running a trading deficit for such a long time as well as spending beyond our income.

I’m sure we will all be taxed more and rightly so. After all we need and should support all those people made redundant in this pandemic. I get quite cross when some are interviewed about their holidays being interrupted surely there are far more important issues.

Yes we probably will be taxed again, but when you look around the world at the immoral wealth of many individuals ( in my opinion ) that there is and the vast wealth that some countries, even third world countries have, the divide between rich and poor all over the world which has exasperated the pain, suffering, homelessness and even deaths of millions of people over the years and prior to the pandemic was allowed to continue. The only reason that all this money has been spent to fight Covid-19 is because it can, will and has affected the health of everyone in the world, even the richest.

Uniqueone It's easy enough to tailor taxes to make local shopping more beneficial and make online shopping more expensive so people would find shop purchases cheaper and then the only advantage of online shopping would be convenience. As we get poorer most will choose the cheaper option. It just needs politicians who put the needs of this country and its population first. We are caught between a very idealistic left wing party and a more right wing party that believes completely in free trade and doesn't seem to care about the damage that causes. Like most things the sensible position is in the middle between those 2 mindsets but ultimately you have to have competent politicians who are committed to improving our living standards without just borrowing.

Why should they pay for it? They didn't do and and most of them fairly earned the money they have.

Because the people at the low end of the pay scales have for too long bailed out the world
