Would You Pay £60 for a Bottle of Water in a Restaurant ?

Ask a Question

This is what one restaurant is charging customers in a restaurant in London

To be honest i would not even pay that for a bottle of champagne never mind water

But i am sure some idiots will pay it , despite filtered tap water being free of charge

One reason for the price increasing is that more people are going teetotal so they have swapped the price and put the premiums on water

To further justify their costs they say drink is where they make their profits

Its enough to make you turn to alcohol !!

I'd rather go in the toilets and drink from the tap than pay that, £60 is ridiculous....

I wouldn't, but the people willing to pay £1,000+ for a restaurant meal probably wouldn't care. There was a time when people baulked at the idea of buying any type of bottled water. Now there are water sommeliers. Upmarket restaurants will likely try to normalise expensive drinking water. There are also websites, such as Fine Waters, trying to raise the status and appreciation of bottled water - finewaters.com/bottled-waters-of-the-world/uk

I wouldn't mind trying Kona Deep, which is deep ocean water from Hawaii - konadeep.com/

Or, Beverly Hills 9OH2O - www.beverlywater.com/

To be honest I'm not the sort of person that would ever be in such a restaurant that would charge that much. Even recently when I've been making use of Hungry Horse's 2 English breakfasts for £4.80 I still ask for tap water with the meal which is free.

If people are stupid enough to pay it, let them do so and give the sellers a good laugh at their stupidity. Even if I were rich I wouldn't allow myself to be taken for a mug.

MelissaLee1 In Wetherspoons you can just ask for a free soda water even if you are just buying a cup of coffee for £1.20 or something which in itself has free refills. They often offer to put in ice and lemon or lime too. This is really appreciated in the summer months.

BonzoBanana Really? I didn't know this. I have never been to a Weatherspoon's pub, but I will now for a hot and cold drink. Thanks for the tip.

No way. I don’t think any of us in this group would. The filthy rich might but doesn’t mean they are intelligent just because they are rich. I’d probably just go for a normal drink but I doubt I’d go to such a restaurant anyway unless I was invited to some special occasion. Very unlikely though.

Free publicity for the so-called restaurant. Who are their customers? Drug dealers and their sorts?

Tax invaders! I can't think of anything positive about this so-called business.

It’s a status thing isn’t it and like others said if you’re paying £1000+ for a meal you aren’t going to care about paying that for water.

Sad though cause i’m sure most wouldn’t be able to tell the difference from cheap bottled water.

jms19 I know someone who worked in vegas who said he was told to rub alcohol around the rim of the glass of sozzled buyers.Bet they do that in some of the shady clubs as well.

jms19 Who's to say it isn't just tap water or some cheap supermarket bottled water siphoned off into expensive bottles J ?

I am sure there are ways to open and reseal a bottle so it looks unused, and they would make even more of a profit on it , and as you say there are not many water 'connaisseurs' out there that would taste the difference , especially after a hot and spicy meal

Some people with money have no sense of how most people have to live. Most people can not afford to go to a restaurant of any kind.£60 will go along way but not on water.

Never.

I probably spend that much on my weekly food shopping. And there's no water bottles included.

Find it hard paying £1 on a water bottle.

Never mind £60 ridiculous
