Paying £399 for Hair Straighteners?

In the News

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-51800764

ok, so it’s a Dyson hair straightener, and it’s designed to halve the damage caused by traditional hair straighteners

but at that price? surely just shaving all of your hair off and starting again is better? (Perhaps not for some, as I know how precious hair is considered for some!)

so would you buy this?

i would rather shave my head...

hspexy Yip i have been cutting my own hair since i lost my mum - she did it usually.

And may I say made a much better job than most barbers/haridressers.

Good old pair of clippers and i can cut my own hair easily now - £10 saved per haircut!

No wonder I am minted!

>;o)

My girlfriend just got her hair cut and it cost £45 - I fell off my chair and bumped my head!

😳

garygemmell aw nothing beats the memories of a mother’s hair cut...although my mum wasn't good at it, as she nearly sliced off my brother’s ear - so he now spends a fiver every few months as he’d like to keep his ears 😂

wow £45! I guess the girlfriend won’t accept an offer from you to cut her hair then? Save the £45 😜

She says its standard for a cut wash and dye?

garygemmell oh if she got it dyed then that’s not too bad - I thought it was just a shampoo, cut and blow dry, which is about £20-£30. It’s usually double that of dye is involved

garygemmell haha I don’t pay those prices - I just go abroad to get my hair cut 😊 my last haircut cost me £2.50 - stuck the money into a vending machine, the woman called me over, snipped for a few minutes, pulled me over to the basin to get a quick shampoo and rinse, and the showed me to the area where I could blow dry my own hair. Need places like that in the uk

I have a pair of £20 hair straighteners which do the job perfectly.

The only reason why brands such as Dyson and GHD are so overpriced is because of how popular they are. They are popular due to successful marketing strategies as well as the fact that A list celebrities use those brands.

For as long as those brands remain hugely popular, they will continue being overpriced.

Meanwhile, I shall refuse to follow the crowd and continue using hair strengtheners which are far more friendly on the purse.

These are one of the mysteries that are WOMAN!

I have not got a clue why anyone would want to straighten their hair!

Sorry its totally lost on me and most guys I know!

Yes, it’s crazy how much people are willing to pay. I tried out some expensive ghd tongs recently, and yes, they heated up fast, but did they provide the price tag value? I don’t think so - I stepped out into the rain and the hair went back to normal! These brands definitely don’t provide miracles 😂

I have a pair of straighteners that are 15 years old and still work, so I will stick with them. I would never spend that amount on a pair of straighteners, it would be wasted on me as I barely use mine these days!

They have also got a £300 hairdryer thats been out a few years and done really well on sales. I did pay just over £100 for my ghd’s 15 years ago - the lead has broke 3 times but ive replaced it myself for a few quid off ebay. I couldnt cope with cheap straighteners as they just dont work well enough but £400 is ridiculous. I am a qualified hairdresser/barber so my kids, mum, dad dont pay for hair cuts. Me and my wife go and pay £20 each for a dry cut. garygemmell £45 is cheap for a colour, cut and blow dry. The salon i go to charge £80-100 although some cheaper salons start from £60.

I have got the dyson airwrap which is well worth it. Two of my eldest daughters have got one each. We use them everyday. So much kinder to hair than other hairdryers and dries quicker. I will wait for reviews before purchasing the straightener.

Dyson uses some amazing technology, so it not damages the hair....but unless u are a professional it is an overpriced thing to have it home. I do not even straight my hair, but saw teenagers do it daily and it damages their hair and they have hair loss so young.

Until recently I had a yearly Japanese treatment at my hairdressers which cost £200. It straightens hair and it remains straight and glossy for practically a whole year.

I would sooner have two treatments than pay the same amount for Mr Dysons straighteners.

My cousin tried it and she recommended it also. I guess at least a real person is making that money, as they would’ve spent time and effort for your treatment, so it’s like a spa day. I wouldn’t want to give the likes of Dyson that much money in one go

That's a lot of money for a hair straightener&no even if I had that sort of money spare i wouldn't buy one.

You can buy a lot of hair products that minimise damage to the hair or use a paddle brush.

I use my daughters straighteners from time to time and they were reasonably priced

I think it’s extortionate. The hair dryer is the same price. There’s no way I would ever pay £800 just for a pair of straighteners and a hair dryer

That's crazy! Maybe I'm cheap but I only have a £30 pair and I know GHD used to be top of the range straighteners but I won't fork out for them lol and they're half the price!

Dyson is a bit of a rat - closes his UK factory and moves to Singapore and loads of UK folks lose their job and to add insult to injury he peddles all his overpriced nonsense to those with more money than sense!

I have repaired Dysons and to be honest the technology is not all that - most of the replacement motors on ebay are only £10-15 for his so called revolutionary design - personally i prefer the old bagged hoovers - much better suction and of course 2000watt+ motors - How they can say a 700 watt motor sucks better is a joke even with cyclonic tech and his fans at £1000 - yeah right strictly for the "Fur coat and nae knickers brigade" as my mum used to say haha she was always right!

If you ever get a chance to visit Singapore, you will know how wasteful they are. With tech goods, they buy what’s popular and throw out anything they think is broken, when usually it’s not. Have a friend out there who just dumpster dives and finds loads of things to fix and resell. The only issue is not many people like second hand goods out there, but there are migrant labourer communities who can’t afford to pay silly prices who will pay a bargain price for some of these items
