Is PayPal in Trouble??

Ask a Question

I’ve been with PayPal for years. Over the time more and more online businesses started accepting it as form of payment but...... I’ve noticed some businesses are dropping this form of payment now like fly.

First I’ve noticed Superdrug got rid off it completely.

Now eBay sent me email asking for my bank details, and said there won’t be PayPal charges when I’m selling goods and money will be going straight to my bank account, not PayPal account as always🤔

This makes me a little bit suspicious.

Is there something dodgy going on with PayPal?

It could be that these companies find that being charged to use the service has gone up?

eBay usually you pay their fees and then PayPal fees on top, I stopped using eBay a long time ago for this reason. Cutting out the middle man.

I’m sure PayPal is charging eBay. So as banks.

But here is where plot thicken:

At the moment PayPal cut is 2.9%. eBay cut is 10%

eBay is promising that sellers will pay less fees due to dropping PayPal charges but..... eBay will start charging 10.28%.

0.01% savings? Lifetime deal 🤣🤣🤣

May I ask if u use anything else instead of eBay? I tried GumTree and Shpock with not much luck and finding myself going back to eBay every time - not ideal but best out of all I tried xx

Personally I think for ebay it is a money grabbing opportunity.

After scrapping paypal they have put their fees up.

So for every item you sell there is a standard 30p charge on top of the 12.8% they take for the item you have sold.

I have no idea why I still sell on their platform anymore when there are so many better and free alternatives.

"I have no idea why I still sell on their platform anymore when there are so many better and free alternatives."

Because nothing comes close to eBay's customer-base.

Shpock (I used this as a buyer and it was a huge waste of time, never again), Facebook Marketplace, Gumtree, eBid, Amazon? You can try your luck.

Haha, no. eBay has been working on their own payment service and they're rolling it out for all members.

It's called Managed Payments. You'll no longer have to worry about fees here and there, as it'll now all be under one roof.

I’m also getting concerned about PayPal

Really gutted Superdrug as stopped using them

Concerned? 😆 Don't be.

PayPal isn't going anywhere and recently they added Crypto to their system. PP is diversifying and breaking from being known as "eBay's Payment Service."

(For U.S. only right now)

I wasn't aware of any issues, but I use papal to save entering my bank details into multiple sites, but will be a lot more weary just encase things awry.

They come off eBay recently wondered what had happened. It’s suppose to benefit eBay.

eBay held my longer a lot longer than PayPal normally did.

PayPal will be here to stay though. Just more companies to chose from.

I think it used to be owned by Ebay didn't it? Between them they've got too greedy with their slice of the action. Probably feeling the pinch from Google pay and Apple pay as well. Time to set up as an independent and carve out their own market

It was although they parted ways or so. I'm guessing eBay just wants to be more independent and rely on itself.

Also, we've not see £1 listings anymore possibly due to Managed Payments.

PhilipMarc Almost impossible to sell a CD and make more than 10p on it... killing the market except for mass sellers who want to shift thousands.

Unless it's a rare or collectible CD, it just doesn't have much resale value. davewalsh126

PhilipMarc Yes, but once upon a time I felt Ebay was helping small sellers and collectors to come together.

That it does, yes, but not everything has the value you or I wish. Optionally, there are pawn stores although chances are they wouldn't give much either. davewalsh126

I use ebay but not a fan of the company or their customer service but you have to use them because thats where many bargains are and its the best way of selling specialist items. Paypal are pretty horrible too.

To be honest I'd be happy if Paypal disappeared but I don't think that is going to happen but maybe we are a little closer to that with ebay not making them their main banking partner anymore.

I've seen so many horror stories of both ebay and paypal, customer service that seems criminal.

Trustpilot? I gave up on it. Too many fake reviews and the CS won't remove even with evidence.

Going by TP, a lot are horrible companies, but not really.

PhilipMarc I'm sure there are fake reviews too but most will be genuine accounts of terrible experience with those companies. Fake reviews are normally positive not negative, the negative ones would normally be fair.

The ebay changes haven't bothered me, tbh I prefer the money going directly to my account.

I shop alot online at Superdrug so wa mildly irritated when they removed paypal option, having to enter card details each time is a bit irritating, I do not like storing my details.

I have a PayPal Business MasterCard so I can use PayPal wherever though with so many banks (on the web/app), I wouldn't bother if it were now.

Been using it since 2019 and am satisfied.

I don't think so they are still a very good way of paying for things
