Peloton Bikes

Ask a Question

Has anyone bought one or used one before? They’re very expensive and I don’t see the appeal, but they’re being advertised everywhere atm

They're far too expensive I have a normal exercise bike that I use. It does the exact same thing, besides the trainer 😂.

I agree. I think it’s a cool idea and it will get some people, those who can’t make it to classes, a bit more motivated in the group environment but in the comfort of your own home. However, I’d prefer to actually ride a real bike in the fresh air

Totally agree, the price is way too high.

Only heard of them recently in regards to a "sexist" as they made, but I watched it and there was nothing wrong with it.

I wouldn't mind an exercise bike, but I wouldn't want access to an online trainer even if the Peloton subscription was a lot cheaper.

Yes it’s a feature that not everyone will want. I guess they have tried to bring the exercise classes to the home with their concept, but I certainly don’t fancy that idea myself

I have an exercise bike which I used daily for the first month. Now it sits in the utility room taking up valuable space.

Lol I imagine that’s the case for a lot of exercise devices. I guess the motivation to use them long term wanes after the novelty wears off

A child has died in a Peloton Treadmill related incident. Although, looking at the stats in this article it appears treadmills are the cause of a lot of accidents. With 22,500 treadmill-related injuries reported in the USA last year and 17 deaths between 2018 - 2020. Peloton also recalled 27,000 of their exercise bikes last year - https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-56451430

I had an accident on a treadmill in my teens (was going way too fast and lost concentration for a moment), so I completely understand how it could happen (and never again)

hspexy the Consumer Product Safety Commission in America are now urging 'owners of a Peloton treadmill to stop using the product "immediately" if they have children or pets in the home'. It's interesting they have singled out Peloton treadmills. It suggests the regulator believe they are less safe than treadmills from other manufacturers - https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-56790070

ACR really? oh dear. I guess peloton is the kind of company that is likely to respond, especially as it’s so expensive to start with.

Saturday night live made a skit on peloton bikes and I found it hilarious i can never look at a peloton bike the same way again 😄.

They also did a funny skit on Pandora jewellery.

Idea behind it is sound, however the initial outlay puts me off entirely it's far far far to expensive and on top you have a monthly subscription.

We constantly see the ads on tv. I think that they are far too expensive and I wouldn't want access to a personal trainer or someone physically watching me over the Internet whilst I exercise. Definitely not for me. I will stick to walking the dog, housework and running around after my toddler as my form of exercise.

It's a premium product with super huge marketing costs its never going to be good value as there are high advertising costs and its generous with affiliate income etc. If you want an exercise bike just spend time working out the features you want and then shortlist the models and see where you can get the best deal. Getting fit is never about how much money you have, just going for a regular walk or getting a bicycle off freecycle and going for regular rides or even going up and down the stairs 100 times a day. There is no connection with the more money you spend the more fit you get, there are exercises for every part of the body that cost nothing.

Lets also remember a real bicycle has many advantages over an exercise bike as the bike moves it forces more air into the lungs which helps generate more power especially if you are recovering from covid and have damaged lungs and the real world throws up many challenges hills etc. Also a real bicycle can make you richer. Using a bicycle for a commute or a trip to the shops etc over the long term can seriously improve your income compared to driving. A home that has 2 cars compared to a home with 1 car and a bike or ebike is going to cost a lot more money over the long term, 2 lots of fuel, 2 road taxes, 2 insurances, 2 mots, 2 cars to repair etc. A bicycle in the mix can seem like a pay rise. The improvement in health has financial rewards as well in many instances.

Just making the point that improving your health can actually be financially beneficial.

Way too expensive. I used to have a normal exercise bike, was so uncomfortable then it turned into a clothes horse!

No way would I be able to 'handle' that annoying **** from the ad shouting "go Peloton, you've smashed it". I'd be telling the enthusiastic little git where to shove his exercise bike after 5 minutes.
