Are People Conscious about Shopping Local

Ask a Question

Curious to see how many of us are conscious about supporting small local business . As a florist in a small town it really does go a long way in supporting small business when people make conscious decisions. However the easiness of online shopping is so easy to fall into especially to save time.

Thats the thing - price!

I recently went to buy some Venison from the local butcher it was £12 for a tiny little steak.

Asda £3.99 - You cannot argue with that when most people are skint!

Local fishmonger just opened up - closed after less than a year.

Oils and fragrances shop - lasted 6 months!

The rates are also to blame i mean £1500 a week just to rent a bloomin shop in my area that is madness!

I feel for the local shops but i think soon the high street will be gone and it will be all online as soon as they get the prices low enough and VR allows people to check clothes out - its only food and clothes that are stopping Amazon etc from taking over totally from the high street!

I always shop local, I still want towns and high street shops to be around for future generations. Although it's quite rural where I am, the local towns have good variety of shops and most have refill stations too so eco friendly

I try and shop local as often as I can but sometimes it is more expensive and I can't justify the costs!

I agree that the ease of online shopping definitely gets me here, I'd like to invest more in small businesses but there aren't a great deal around me, I like going to small independent cafe's etc and buying from homemade sellers where possible but don't do this as much as I would like.

Most bargains are online so I buy most stuff online. I do buy flowers from a local florist though! Some things are best bought locally.

I try to be. I buy most of our shopping & groceries online, Its more convenient & generally works out cheaper. I still use my local butchers regularly too tho.

When sending flowers I always search for a local florist near the recipient (rather than using Interflora etc) and deal direct. I seem to get more and better flowers for my money that way and delivery is often free.

The cost effects my decision. If i shop local it will usually cost me more for same products so i find it very hard to have a reason to spend it when im losing out by having less money.

I use a local greengrocers and its cheaper and certainly better quality than the supermarkets (apart from supermarket offers.) it sticks to mainly seasonal veg so maybe isn't for everyone. I use my local butcher too. I also use local charity shops over the big 1's wether buying or donating.

I very rarely shop in my small local businesses. Shopping online ir shopping in the larger supermarkets is easier because its all on one shop and its much cheaper. I understand they have to make a living but unless im desperate for a few things i will buy where i can get the best value.

for fresh produce, it certainly can be worth supporting the local, indecent shops as they often offer better quality and freshness, even if it costs a little more. But for everything else, especially fashion, most of the stuff is imported so you can get cheaper stuff online
