Personalised Number Plates
Ask a Question
Are they worth it, and would you have one?
If you would have one what would you have it personalised to?
I don’t think I would bother as I would prefer the normal reg age on there
I don't see the point at all but I guess if you're looking for a gift for someone that has it all, it would be an reasonably good idea.
this is my work colleagues plate, her last name is Walker however it looks like it says something very different!!
I have also seen some dubious personalised plates. I can't even think of an alternative (explanation) that a friend-of-a-friend has but, let's just say if she knew what I see she would change it quickly.
I have to own up - when they became really popular I was tempted but I'm so glad I didn't. I think they are pretty tacky now and I don't know what made me even consider them.
The best thing is that it's not obvious how old your car is because it doesn't have the year number in the registration
Personally no I think they are a bit naff. Although, they can be a good investment with the right plate. The most expensive UK plates have sold for over £100,000. While in the Middle East and Asia the most expensive plates went for more than a million pounds.
My dad used to have one when I was younger. I used to call his car the dougmobile, so mum bought a plate with Doug on it. My dad loved it because of the meaning behind it. He still has it but it's no longer on his car.
I don't think they are worth the money they sell for but to be fair it's not something I would want anyway.
Chris Dawson (who owns The Range homeware stores) has the numberplate DE11 BOY on his Rolls Royce after the Only Fools and Horses character. Good for him, he used to be a market trader in Plymouth.
'RR1' sold for £460,000 last year, that's more than the price of a Rolls! For that price you could buy 65 Dacia Sanderos. So I guess it's only worth it if you have the money and nothing better to spend it on, like, err, charity.
I agree with the others.. not worth the money in my opinion, if they were cheaper, it’s a good way to cover up how old your car is... but i don’t know how the justify the price of some of them...
I would not have one as I feel it is just showing off and a total waste of money. You must have more money than sense to waste on life's fripperies.
