Poached Eggs - Do You Have Any Tips for Cooking Them ?

Ask a Question

I like poached eggs but I very rarely cook them as they are tricky to get them right. I don't like them if they are under done, when the white isn't completely cooked or if the yolks aren't runny. Seems to be only seconds between the two states. I've bought a poaching pan, I've put vinegar in the water so you have any tips?

I always use the silicone Poachpods I find them very good.

I’ve tried using vinegar, as advised online, but it doesn’t always work. I just microwave them nowadays

I may give this ago, as I like runny yolks, for years I didn't eat them because of Edwina Currie MP, you may be too young to remember but back in 1988, when she was Health Minister said that all UK eggs were infected with Salmonella.

I love poached eggs but useless at dropping egg in boiling water so grease old tea cups and stand those in a large saucepan.

Swirl the water round and put the egg in whilst it's still spinning 😁

I use white vinegar in the water and do the 'swirl' before dropping them in. I tend to put the egg in quite close to the water rather than drop them from a height though.

Line a small ramekin dish with cling film and break the egg gently into it. Then gather up the edge of the cling film and make something that looks like a big Chinese wonton. Carefully drop the parcel into some gently boiling water and wait 6-8 mins. Carefully fish out the parcel and unravel it. A nicely poached egg will be inside.
