How Much Pocket Money Do You Give Your Kids ?
Ask a Question
I was wondering, how much you guys give pocket money ?
With cost of living being so high. Has their pocket money gone up or down !
SaveMeSunday thank you for responding.
I remember 50p a week , but I am 47 now. So with inflation we were probably on similar amounts
I have four children, all grown up now but never gave them pocket money. They never went without and if they actually needed something then I would buy it.
eyeballkerry That was same with me as a kid, I didn't get pocket money but was always bought things and anything I wanted within reason. I did ask the one time and my mum said well you can but you will probably find you will be less well off, so I didn't. And I took the same approach with mine.
My son is coming 6, he get £2 a week, he has little jobs like putting toilet roll in the bathroom, and help bring wood in for the fire with me etc.
We got 3 kids we give them £10 every week plus they can earn more money by doing bits around the home
My son gets £1 for doing a chore every day (compulsory) £2 for each extra one (if he decides to do extras) and £1 if he keeps bedroom tidy. Averages about £9 a week but if he's after a new game he ups his chores and one week earnt £38. When he puts money away for when he is older I match what he pays into the bank.
Thank you every family should do what suits them we tried alot of things before we found this worked for us
My dad use to leave us 10 p each before he went to the pub at night when we were children in the 70s and 80s.
My son is only 4 so doesn't get pocket money. I never got pocket money as a kid. I never went without though so never felt the need to ask for any. My grandparents used to give us £2 each when we went to visit them. I put money into my sons bank account so he has it for when he is older. He does small chores around the house, so gets a new toy every so often as a reward. For him he would rather be given a new car than handed money.
£30 a month he's 13, it should have gone up for his birthday but he's not consistent with his chores. May still put it up.
I used to get 9 old pence a week 6p for the pictures and 3p for sweets this went up to 50p a week when i got a paper round
I got the odd penny now and again and sixpence when the electric man came, black Jack's and dainty toffees here I come .
I give my 14 year old son £40 a month, but to be fair he does save up if there's something that he wants to buy.
my oldest son does a paper round for his pocket money and he'll ask for a top up if he needs something
second son is 11 gets a fiver provided jobs are done and can earn extra if he wants to
girls are 6 and 9 and get £2 each with leeway for asking for 50p here and there to buy things at the local shop
all can get a little top up for doing thing slike nipping to the post office or hoovering more than tehir own room.
Do any of you remember bringing back bottles and getting a few pence for returns. That was my pocket money back in the day
Well I only give them £2-£4 and I get them to help … like pick things up put in bin … wash up … I don’t over do it but I want them to be independent .. helpful …
