Not got kids yet but I’m sure when we were kids it was a £1 a week. I’m 38 now.

I remember 50p a week 😂, but I am 47 now. So with inflation we were probably on similar amounts 😊

TiaTia I used to get 50p too 😂. But because I was the only girl I had to do a lot of chores. ( My dad definitely believed it was a girls job 😂. My 3 brothers loved that. But their wives soon changed that 😂.) We wouldn't get a lot for our money now 😊

I have four children, all grown up now but never gave them pocket money. They never went without and if they actually needed something then I would buy it.

eyeballkerry That was same with me as a kid, I didn't get pocket money but was always bought things and anything I wanted within reason. I did ask the one time and my mum said well you can but you will probably find you will be less well off, so I didn't. And I took the same approach with mine.

wyal5 agree, he needs to learn. Saves it in a piggy bank for a toy. One day he really wanted this toy but didn’t have enough money, so I made him do some more jobs and gave him some pennies x

My son gets £1 for doing a chore every day (compulsory) £2 for each extra one (if he decides to do extras) and £1 if he keeps bedroom tidy. Averages about £9 a week but if he's after a new game he ups his chores and one week earnt £38. When he puts money away for when he is older I match what he pays into the bank.

My son is only 4 so doesn't get pocket money. I never got pocket money as a kid. I never went without though so never felt the need to ask for any. My grandparents used to give us £2 each when we went to visit them. I put money into my sons bank account so he has it for when he is older. He does small chores around the house, so gets a new toy every so often as a reward. For him he would rather be given a new car than handed money.
