I can’t believe all he ate in his childhood were chips and crisps. I remember being a fan of junk food as a kid, but I also had proper food, whether I like it or not. So sad nothing was done to prevent this
You'd think if he had signs of malnutrion and vitamin defiencies giving he was under 18 that the doctors would have picked up on it and done something also he's under 18 so his parents should have tried to help change his diet.
That’s what I thought. He would have shown signs of deficiency way before it got that serious. And even if the parents didn’t do anything, the teachers in school should have noticed - our food intake was monitored when I was in school. Perhaps they don’t do it anymore
hspexy I read up on it more and because he was a healthy weight, or his bmi was normal doctors completely ignored him. He complained about fatigue and all sorts but they never told him to change his diet purely because he has a normal bmi. Quite sad really.
Also why weren't his parents feeding him? Surely they would have prepared dinner at least. This really could have been avoided.
He shouldn’t have had such a poor diet. Even though food in school is rubbish, it will often have some kind of fruit or veg in the meals at some point in the week, so even if the parents ate rubbish, his diet ought to have been noticed in school
It looks like this stemmed from a food phobia and it was picked up 3 years ago, but he did not follow medical advice. His parents are not mentioned in this article, so it's not clear what involvement they had. There maybe other factors that have not been reported due to his young age.
Not sure why a kid would follow medical advice. The parents are the ones supplying the food, so it’s sad that it has come to this
We don't know his history, he may not even live with his parent(s) or they could have issues with drugs, alcohol, mental health, need care for medical issues, etc. There are plenty of kids around the UK mainly eating junk. So we are likely to hear similar stories in the future.
Well even if he is under someone else’s care, he’s still supposed to be under someone else’s care. Someone is responsible for him, and it seems that in this case they have failed him. From the artcles I’ve read, he does have siblings who eat fruit and veg, so he’s just a ‘fussy eater’. Let’s just say that the term does nothing to convey how serious this matter is
Eating fast food once a month or every 3/6/12 months that's okay but every day? Smh. It wasn't even his fault since he was just a child and had to rely on adults to make the right choices for him.. they ruined him for life.
