I am thinking about buying prescription glasses on line and they are asking about pupil alignment. My optician is refusing to give it to me and I was wondering how to do it myself. I think I have to measure from pupil to pupil
I had this when ordering mine a few months back . Either you can print off a pupillary distance ruler such as www.greenleafimaging.com/blog/2020/06/printable-pd-pupillary-distance-ruler/ or in my case Glasses Direct double checked it by asking me to send a photo with a credit card against my forehead .
By the way look at discounts over a few days as 50% off frames or 2 for 1 frames is not great if you have expensive lenses , also vice versa . I went for expensive vari focals and the glasses were cheaper when the 40% off total order voucher appeared .
Also with glasses direct they send you 4 frames to try (see how they look on , check the comfort etc) for free ,you have to return them after a week . jillylovesyou Ye , I was looking at the thick end of £350 for a pair of varis from Specsavers . Got a pair of top of the range ones for £180 from GD , was so pleased with them I got another pair of mid range varis for golf for under £120 . TBH I can't tell the difference

Golfforall how much should I spend, is it best to avoid the cheap ones? I wear contacts so it’s just for the evening telly thanks
jillylovesyou Shouldn't be expensive for normal lenses . Varis , which I need can be pricier . I would think that having a comfortable to wear pair will be most important . The pricier lenses have tints , anti scratch coatings etc . As I wear mine all the time I have all those , but just for indoors probably not necessary .

beccatavender I’ve been buying my specs online for a few years. I was concerned the first time but they were such a good price and identical to ones I tried on in the opticians. At a fraction of the price so decided to order online.
Takes me back to working as a Dispensing optician, first job after Uni Hated taking PDs, check out utube for some guidance if you are worried and get a couple of people to have a go. If they are the same you are probably ok going with that. The one thing that would stop me ordering online is the amount of specs I rejected from the glassing companies, without a focimeter at home I would be more concerned about the prescription.
jillylovesyou I understand what you are saying, Pds are not part of an eye test, that is why the options will not give them to you. They Are part of a dispensing measurements like heights for varifocals. I was meaning I would want to check the glasses are correctly made to my prescription. Taking your prescription to someone else can makes it more complicated if you have any problems, The optician will blame the company you buy your glasses from and the company will blame the opticians prescription.
Howmuch I have had a look on line and the ones I like are £220 all in, for that price I may as well go in to the opticians. They sounded cheap at first advertising for £49
jillylovesyou Sometimes they do have good offer online. They can be cheaper as they do not have the overheads the optician has. In fact the optician will Lose a lot of money for every test that does not buy glasses.
A little tip for when measuring (which is supposed to be from centre of pupil to centre of the other pupil) is rather than judge where the centre is, is to measure from the left side of one pupil to the right side of the other.
There are numerous methods of how to measure online, It's important to know whether the glasses are for distance or reading. The PD is not as great for reading glasses.
jillylovesyou If, as you say, the glasses are for distance then the measurement should be made when looking into the distance... thats when the pupils are furthest apart. Many manufacturers will accept the same measurement for reading glasses and deduct an approximate amount from it.
I’ve used selectspecs before and thought they were really good, delivery was around a week but amazing value for what I wanted.
I read a post ages ago about asda opticians and that's were i go now, they do the thinning of the lenses for free and the price starts from £45.
