What Do You Do with Unwanted Prizes?

Ask a Question

What do people do with prizes you can't use?

For example too far to travel or on holiday when the show/event on

I know you can offer them to relatives if the competition allows, but is there a place you can give them away (that's if you lucky enough to win of course)πŸ˜‚

Many thanks from a Newby!πŸ‘

I follow some fb competition groups and people post about giving away wins which they can't use. Normally if more than one person wants it, they'll do a draw.

I've never won a prize that I can't use. I only enter competitions with a prize that either myself or family and friends can use. I don't see the point in entering a competition where the prize is something I can't use.

I never enter competitions for things like holidays or events because I know that they will not be suitable and won't fit around our sons numerous hospital appointments.

rowley1943 - I have won several competitions over the years that required me to go for instance, go to London (several bottles of whisky), Ideal Home Exhibition tickets, Merry Hill (an Easter hamper), and several minor prize that I don't remember. I never did turn up to claim any of them.

jam45 thank you for you nice reply I just wondered if there was any website I could give the gift to but thank you! it's such a shame you couldn't receive your prize πŸ˜• and at the the time of entering you think you can go but something comes up hopefully you and I will.win something good soonπŸ‘

rowley1943 - Thank you for your speedy reply. How about charity shops, a local jumble sale asking for donations of any kind. Fingers crossed we both will win something worthwhile and is able to receive it in person.

On the small chance that family or friends can't use a prize, I'll stick it on eBay.

Sadly we had to cancel a holiday win as we had an ill pet, they said we could reschedule they were lovely on the phone but then we got an email with cancelation and they didn't let us rearrange. I wouldn't have minded but they said we could which was quite upsetting.

I also won some panto tickets but sadly we had Covid so we had to gift it to family last minute and they managed to enjoy them (nieces first panto!) but tickets usually say no transferring, so we made sure they were aware they might not accept them, but they just scanned the QR code and went in.

I don't enter for anything I can't use or gift. I did take someone's prize before of a subscription to an app as they didn't actually want it. I could understand if people got a runners up prize and didn't want it or couldn't use it, but in that case I'd probably ask them to redraw, you don't have to take it, I would hate for it to be wasted or given to someone who wouldn't really want it, vs those that could really enjoy it.

This thread reminds me of the old Bullseye quiz show where people would win caravans and speedboats when they lived in a council flat etc and the only option they had was to sell them.

I won a Amazon kindle android tablet from hotukdeals. I played about with it for a while but it was pretty slow and crappy and soon sold it on.

I am shocked to see that some folk enter comps they have no intention of claiming when someone else who would really love the win could have had it.

I appreciate that sometimes it is unavoidable but most weekends away or holidays have plenty of leeway on times you can take the prize. There is no excuse for not claiming items you have entered to win.

Personally I save most of my wins as birthday/Xmas gifts for family or friends.
