Pubs and Restaurants Closing at 10pm
In the News
Will this affect you? Do you think it’s a good idea or not?
Not me ... I’m usually in bed by then
With the 10.00 rule youd think you can't catch Corona before 10 maybe its a nocturnal virus @TheChimp
Imnotcheap This has been my argument all along.
And have you seen how many staff in Wetherspoons have tested positive? It's quite shocking.
All the local pensioners where I am are off their face here by 2 pm anyway. Maybe save late closures for Friday and Saturday?
I can't even remember the last time I went to a pub. so no difference to me. I really can't see how social distancing and alcohol can mix.
I can't understand anyone wanting to go into a pub when a pandemic is on. If only someone could get it through to many people that ANY UNNECESSARY near contact with others might be a better idea.
The few times I've gone out I've been amazed how so many people just flout the regulations.
In my lifetime I've seen the number of people using pubs decrease to where pubs, as they were, were on the point of extinction before the first lockdown, and also seen "eating out" increase to where eating out is no longer a special occasion.
I think I waste my breath explaining things to folks on here !! The reason Pubs ,Restaurants and other hospitality venues are still open is that they represent 30% of the UK economy . Not so people can still get drunk !
Who amongst the moaners on here is going to pay the taxes that the companies and workers pay if they were all closed ( 30% of our GDP ) ?
Being open until 10 pm gives sensible folk a bit of time to socialise - and we humans are social animals
Golfforall The problem is that a lot of people aren't being sensible. It might be ok in your pub, but it certainly isn't like that in our local.
TheChimp I don't know what it's like in my local, I've far too much sense to go and find out. I managed to survive without pubs for years before the pandemic.
Not sure whether it's a good idea or not really, probably stop large groups congregating outside pubs in the town centres in the early hours on weekends , but that may happen earlier in the evening now who knows. or the groups from pubs may also just move on to private houses etc at closing time, only time will tell . Doesn't really bother me thou pubs closing early as I rarely frequent pubs anyway. Personally I do wonder ( and maybe totally wrong) whether the return of schools /colleges and Universities has anything to do with this recent outbreak as it coincides with their return.
That's why I like the "rule of 6 " law . Any groups of more than 6 gathering inside or in parks , town centres etc will be dispersed and if they regather they will be fined - no ifs or buts !
The police have confirmed they will be enforcing this now (maybe after 1 warning ) - about time .
The terminally thick will get the message this time , shame it wasn't more strictly enforced months ago then we wouldn't be in this position now.
As someone who lost their job due to loss of trade in the hospitality industry this is going to devastate some venues further.... say you are a pub that is open till 11pm and 12am on weekends with full track and trace and table service only like my local they are now going to loose 9 hours trade a week, this will further impact on staff cuts, covering the costs of running and will lead to further unemployment. Since pubs have been trading since July I don't think them alone is the issue here, this is going to cause further issues with people meeting up in homes for drinks without any controlled environment, no track or trace or social distancing in place which will only put more people at risk
