Do You Still Read Books

Other

Do any one still read a book. I do I go through about 4 to 6 books in a month . I love reading. The authors I like is dilly court, Rosie Harris, Katie Flynn, and a lot more. It is very rest full when you read. You can get lost in the story. I suffer with lupus, rheumatism arthrits, arthrits, and a lot more health problems. So reading dose help me. Have you got a favourite author or a favourite.book

I don't read as much as I used to. I still love reading but don't have as much time to read as I used to. I find that it is during the holidays that I get time to read. My husband is a big reader and loves his books. He loves historical fiction, whereas I like romantic comedy.

Dear Mrs Craig, please do recommend to your husband a set of books by David Gilman called Masters of War. It is a fictional hero set in real times, starting around the time of the battle of Crecy, time of Edward 3rd and the Black Prince. It is a real meaty man's read but as a woman I also love books like that. If he has a kindle your husband could download a free sample to see if he likes it.

nicolajaynehend I love reading but just never seem to have the time or there is always something else to be done! I need to make an effort to set aside some time to sit down with a good book.

I read at least every night before sleeping. I only stop when my eyes begin to droop and I am no longer taking in the story. I am absolutely fascinated with history so all my reading is historical, fiction and non fiction, especially British medieval history. My favourite authors are Sharon Penman, Elizabeth Chadwick, Diana Gabaldon (Outlander), Anne O'Brien, David Gilman, Ken Follett, Philippa Gregory and I also devoured Robert K. Massie's books about the Romanovs, Peter the Great and Catherine the Great.

Hi Nicola, Outlander is a really popular series which is shown on more4 (e4?) and also on Amazon Prime, everyone seems to love it. The books are brilliant, 8 in all with another 2 to come before it all ends, sob. Ken Follett wrote Pillars of the Earth which was another great mini series starring Rufus Sewell, Eddie Redmayne, Ian McShane, Donald Sutherland and Matthew McFadyen. I am sure you would love both on tv or books.

My Granny absolutely loves the Outlander books! She watches the tv series too. My dad loved the Ken Follett books and he loved watching the mini series too! He recommended them to my husband and he read them too and thought they were great!

Hi again Nicola. Outlander is primarily a fantastic love story about a nurse from ww2 who timeslips back to Scotland in the 1700s. She falls in love with a Scottish warrior who is ultimately killed (or is he?) at the battle of Culloden against the English. She goes back to her own time and husband pregnant but goes back to her true love later. It is gritty and war figures high so appeals to men as well but I have never seen anything that depicts true love so beautifully, bittersweet. The books and videos are on Amazon, as are Pillars of the Earth. That goes back further to medieval times and is about a wicked bishop (who tries to stop a master builder in his attempt to build a magnificent cathedral), a good prior and the love between Tom builder and his ladylove and his children growing up in the town of Kingsbridge. I believe you could sample on amazon.

I am currently reading the 3rd book in the trilogy that started with Pillars of the Earth. It is still about Kingsbridge but set in Elizabethan times. In the interest of honesty I have to admit that I am not enjoying it as much as the first 2 but is still a good read.

I read about the same as you 4-6 books a month. Have you ever been a member of Goodreads? They used to offer free books but in the last year (since they were taken over by Amazon) the number of books given away has drastically reduced. I would be interested to know if you have joined any other similar group and if so which? You can't beat a good book. One of my favourite authors is Daphne Du Maurier but recently I have read more of Louise Candlish & Sarah Pinborough. Trudi Canavan is also a great writer.

I've bought a bunch of books (1984, Brave New World, Spain's Biography) that I've been meaning to read but hadn't had time to. Hopefully will in the near future.

Spain’s Biography -

qué?

I thought a biography was an account of someone's life written by someone else.

Perhaps the author is not literary.
