Should We Be Rescuing Stray Dogs from Abroad??

Ask a Question

There are 1,000s of strays in rescue homes, should we really be bringing in strays dogs from other countries and then charge average price of £500 to adopt, surely the money would help rescue center's here and allow more dogs to be adopted

I am in two minds. The positives, the dogs are hopefully going to get a better home. The negatives, a lot of these dogs are mixed breed and so people don’t understand their temperament. I heard recently through a friend someone paid £500 but doesn’t like the dog and wants her money back, not sure what happens here?

eyeballkerry what happens is tough and she shouldn't be allowed another pet. Pets have feelings and can't be put out in the rubbish. You wouldn't do this to a child because you don't like your son or daughter

Jerseydrew totally agree with you, and I dread Christmas coming up as the rescue center's are going to be full within days and the thought of what Happens to the dogs after a few days really upsets me!! PLEASE DON'T JUST GET A DOG LIKE A TOY, AND LOOSE INTEREST WHEN NEXT NOVELTY THING COMES ALONG, AND I THINK IF YOU HAVE A DOG, AND THEN TAKE TO RESCUE HOME EVEN WHEN NO FAULT OF DOG YOU SHOULD BE BANNED FOR LIFE ON OWNING ANY OTHER DOG OR ANIMAL.....sorry for the rant but very passionate about this subject.....over last 25yrs we've had 4 rescues, and still got a 12yr staffie x and then a 2yr heinz 57, but always have rescues, best temperament I feel......

Jerseydrew Maybe not your own child but people who foster give them back, which is similar to the dogs, not right.

If there weren't so many in the uk that needed homes it'd be fine but as this as this isn't the case we need to look after the ones we've got first

Jerseydrew totally agree, far to many here, so we need to stop foreign rescue center's flooding our country with more strays as there's no guarantee that the adoptees will get on with the dog as usually they come with no history and just because they've been in center's over there for 4 weeks isn't long enough to find what a dogs character is like

I love dogs and cats but it seems like madness when there are so many animals to rehome here. People go on holiday and discover abandoned animals and want to bring them back and I totally understand that but for the money they pay out they could do much more good towards animals here.

BonzoBanana totally agree and it breaks my heart to think of all the dogs whom have to go over "the Rainbow Bridge " well before their time, so sad.......

I think it's a good idea. But there's so many animals that need homes her already. Should try and find homes for them first.

KAW18 totally agree, but it seems to be the same with everything, this country is completely messed up with helping the overseas with different things whilst should be closer to home

mygod1 thanks for replying and it just came into my mind after reading an article about an elderly woman who had purchased a puppy after a holiday abroad, she ended up paying over £1000 and got 1yr old dog back here and it turned on her other dogs, then ended up in rescue center's here and this happened all within 8 weeks, poor dog didn't stand a chance, and coz of no history was put to sleep within a week.....so sad

I believe that no country should be helping another until they put their own house in order. How long do we continue to haemorrhage money whilst helping others but not our own. It is no different to mother's feeding their neighbours kids while their own starve. We spend so much on foreign aid, including dogs it now seems. I would sooner a percentage of the hotel bills cost be spent on building self sufficient towns in safe countries where there are still vast areas of land to support new townships.

Someone I know has adopted 2 dogs from Europe, the dogs have major issues, I'd dread to think if they ever got out and we're roaming around

I have only had dogs from here but dont begrudge someone adopting from abroad. Rescue dogs have it tough but ours are not treat as bad as other countries like the dog meat trade etc.

Nope. Since 99% of abroad rescues are utter money making scams. What those dogs have been through/ have to through to get here/ and go through when they get here is utterly horrific. Most of these scam rescues don't even tell people how terrified their dogs will actually be. They don't tell them about having zero interaction with humans. They don't tell them it will take years in some cases for the dog to settle in. Added to that, the number of foreign rescue dogs who go missing/escape every year due to rescue/owners stupidity. These dogs will most probably never be safe off lead because all they want to do is run. It's all they know.

I cry inside every time I hear of another one going missing. It happens much more than your average Joe ever hears about.

Jinky67 Thanks for some real truthful words which may upset some people buy they say truth hurts, but not as much as those poor dogs have gone through, and it breaks my heart too
