Should We Get Rid of Christmas Crackers?

Ask a Question

Should we stop buying Christmas Crackers?

They can be a big cause of waste with little toys that get played with once and forgotten about, not to mention all the wrappings!

They are i guess bad for the environment as most of them just ends up in the bin. I definitely think they should be stopped but at the same time as a kid i did love them

There are a lot of things we should get rid of so why the pick on a defenseless cracker. Did you not have a cracker on your tree or table as a child? Have you never pulled a cracker while growing up? So whats the difference now. Its tradition Isnt It? Its like saying should we get rid of Christmas!

Emerge11 I don't think you can compare it with getting rid of the holiday alltogether. There are a lot of things we did as growing up that we realise weren't good and we changed (Like having kids in car seats)

I think they are part of our Christmas tradition so I wouldn’t get rid of them. Having said that there are a lot of rubbishy ones that I would steer clear of. We have to look for sustainable decent ones these days. You pay a bit more but probably worth it.

No we shouldn't get rid of crackers, they are an integral part of Christmas dinner, if people don't like them then they don't have to buy them but leave the rest of us alone to enjoy the tradition.

No , we have always had Christmas crackers , used to always have a Giant one also .Don't think they are such a big thing as they used to be anyway, used to see them everywhere in a massive range of shapes, sizes and designs in the shops this time of year, although they are still available the range is much reduced now .

I love a Christmas cracker, love the corny jokes, Christmas wouldn't be the same without the paper hats and if I get the mini screwdriver set then that's my Christmas made, can't beat the mini screw driver set, come in handy at work all the time fixing the old folks glasses, really hoping for a new set this year as mine are getting abit worn, but the brother in law also loves the mini screwdrivers so I may have to arm wrestle him for them😂💪

Look it's a tradition and each to their own, the Xmas table wouldn't be the same without us wearing our hats from the crackers. 😜

I have some nice ones I bought from Waitrose last year that I completely forgot about. I don’t suppose they’ll go off with a bang this year.

Yes. Pointless and messy. Nobody really wears the hats, you spend time pulling them and meantime the dinner you shopped, planned and took so long cooking gets cold.

I looked at some Crackers in Asda and it actually showed everything that was inside the crackers on the back of the box so no surprises to what is included except you don't know which cracker has what. It all looked like tat and not worth having. The only time I buy crackers is after Christmas/New Year to keep for next year when they are sold very cheap but didn't get any last January sales so none to use this Christmas. It's more tat from China to damage our economy and fill up the landfill sites and add to our £150k of debt for every single person in the UK that we have created for ourselves.
