Any Rock Climbers out There?
Ask a Question
So I plan to do this some point in my life, preferably in an exotic location. But first I do need to train for it, as I’ve no upper body strength, which I need to pull myself up. So I guess I need to get myself to a local rock climbing centre to practice
Do you rock climb? What training do you suggest? How much does your local rock climbing centre charge?
Probably full training, because strong upper body is not enough... The legs also needs to be strong.. Would recommend to train on climbing walls.
Yes I’d have to do that. My legs should be fine, as I’ve never had issues with leg strength, and it is perhaps the only reason why I have been able to scale up some of the rocks. But some are tough and require a lot of pulling. I can’t even do a chin up so it’s tough
I used to do a bit of indoor climbing. Check if your nearest climbing centre runs courses for beginners. You'll need to learn how to belay, do your figure-of-eight knot and general safety practices before they'll let you climb. Otherwise, you'll need to find a climbing friend to teach you. Centres should have rental equipment available. You'll need to rent (or buy) a harness, shoes and belay device. Strength will come with training. Depending on where you go, you'll hopefully also find an area for traversing and/or bouldering, which you can do on your own.
