Such Rubbish Tv at the Moment

Other

I probably get through a lot more tv than the average person so it's my own fault that it feels as if I have seen everything. But lately I can't find anything to watch most of the time.

I have Amazon, Netflix, plex and sky but every night it's a struggle except for favourites like Line of Duty, only on for 1 hour once a week for 6/7 weeks of the year.

Is it just me or is it all rubbish at the moment?

I don't have a tv license or Amazon prime or netflix so I'm limited to the free catchup services, youtube, my film/tv dvd collection and free video sources. I do use kodi for some content, cough..

I think you get to an age where the same ideas get repeated and you spot that and it just makes it pointless. I get more entertainment from watching youtube videos about stuff I'm interested in. You also get lots of music, interesting short movies and many classic movies there.

Yes you're right when I put YouTube on I tend to get hooked but rarely think of doing it.

You are also right about age. I hate my life being marked by years and years of watching soaps and in that regard covid gave me the push I needed to break the habit. I don't like sport, game shows, reality tv etc and not into animal programmes so I suppose I am fussy. I just love a good drama but they can't make them quick enough to keep me going lol.

I do watch a lot of rubbish television, my husband will tell you that but every now and then something good does come on. Recently watched Bates Motel, brilliant, now watching Breeders. Watched all Modern family and Kath and Kim.

yes I watched Bates Motel when it first came out and I do think I have missed out on a few good series that were already well established by the time I heard of them. Maybe I will go back and try some of the older favourites.

Lynibis If you have Sky you also have the record facility for both free and Sky content . I never watch series on a week by week basis . I record them then watch the whole series over a few nights .

For instance I have not yet watched Line of Duty (nor will I till the series has ended ) and have a few other series yet to watch . If they are rubbish I will just delete them . Obviously you have to beware of "spoiler" comments but as my mates talk about sport (not TV) then I only have to avoid spoilers on the radio or in the press .

Still have hours of recorded series to watch , you don't need to be a slave to what is "currently showing " .

Golfforall I think you missed my point. I have recorded and binge watched everything of interest to me and currently cannot find anything worth recording as I am so selective with my viewing. I only have basic sky but do not watch many American shows e.g. Soprano etc. I have watched every popular series on Netflix/Amazon and I can't find anything that appeals to binge or watch weekly. I had intended to record L of D but knew I couldn't wait 7weeks and that someone would want to talk about it.

I want some more stuff like Vikings, Last Kingdom, G of T, Versailles etc.

We haven't watched 'live' TV since University Challenge finished. We watch YouTube (especially gardening bits & music) and have Amazon Prime (although we aren't impressed with the films on Amazon). I suppose we really should cancel the TV licence!

You really should cancel it if you are not watching BBC programs or can live without them. I cancelled and to be honest don't miss them at all although saying that I like 'Impossible' but watch recordings of that at my mother's house who lives nearby. You can still listen to BBC radio channels and use their website although to be honest I rarely do that either.

I do resent that I can't use other live channels though like ITV, Channel 4 and 5 but can watch them legally on catchup services. I know many people will still watch live channels without a tv license but I wouldn't risk it myself and find living without an aerial connected to my tv easy enough. I also resent the naming of services like freeview and freesat because clearly they aren't free as I can't use them because I don't have a tv license.

I dip into Amazon occasionally to see if anything new is worth watching but object to paying for non prime content. Besides which I am on my son's account and would not dream of adding to his bill. However, in the past I have watched some cracking stuff on Prime like Outlander, Black Sails, Vikings etc.

I do watch YouTube but there is nothing better than getting immersed in a great series.

BonzoBanana I think Mr T wants to keep it for time being in case there is any superbikes/motorcycling - until we get around to signing up for Eurosport, then it'll be for the chop!

I seem to like all the series you have mentioned! I do quite like dramas and police procedural too. This season is always rubbish for TV, I agree. I will be bereft when LoD ends!

Can you access new films via Sky? I am looking forward to watching Nomadland, Minari and The Father.

Me too even though other police dramas are not my go to watch. I occasionally like a bit of Vera and the other night watched good old Bradley in Law and Order UK.

I have access to loads of films but not via Sky but again I find it very hard to watch horror, gangsters and drugs, teen flicks, comedies and chick flicks/romcoms, the latter I will watch if as good as PS I Love You. Anything historical will grab my attention as I can separate it from the violence etc of films set in our times.

You decide what to watch, so it kind of is. Even when there's 100+ channels at a family relative's house, I can't find anything remotely interesting to watch.

I watch a few shows, movies and listen to a Texan radio station.

I listen to the BBC Sounds app. There are some good audio books and serials on it and you can listen while you work.

We found some really good shows on Apple TV (got a year free when upgraded), really enjoy For all Mankind.

Netflix we just watched Shadow and Bone, interesting conception and will watch another season if it’s being made. Netflix we found just got to flick through until find something that peaks interest. Usually we watch a lot of documentaries on there (Boston bomber, etc etc)

Prime, usually nothing appeals. We only got that originally for watching The man in The High Castle, good show and enjoyed it. Probably stop subscription just before renews as not too bothered by it at all.

Sky, found some good ones on there to watch, sometimes documentaries or tv series. Give anything a try once and if it doesn’t hold my attention, usually stop watching and find something else.
