Sales Tips (Moving Abroad)
Ask a Question
Hi all
I’m moving abroad in the next few weeks and I’m needing to sell everything. We are literally taking clothes only. I’m currently using marketplace on Facebook and local selling groups. Do any of you have any tips on selling this amount of stuff while trying to get the best possible price and also any general tips for moving overseas….currently very stressed
I would probably have a garage sale, don’t worry if you don’t have a garage! Just make sure you advertise you are doing it. Be prepared to lower your prices otherwise you will end up having to give away stuff or take it with you.
Have a garage sale and advertised it on fb. Unfortunately you might need to lower your prices to make sure that you can get rid of everything. Make sure you have your items on as many selling pages as possible.
Search online and see if there are any car boots near to you and see if you sell whatever you have there. Also look at apps such as Vinted as you can sell lots of different things on there not just food.
Chelsea0121 For clothes, I'd agree Vinted is "fine," but anything beyond that I'd not use it.
The gaming section is full of scammers with super low odd prices (PS5 Console for £78.65) and then there are real (don't want to call them genuine in this instance) which they could sell something as "very good" and then arrives as utter junk. Thankfully, I got my money back after contacting Vinted's CS and refunded on shipping by Telus/PayPal (the Vinted sellers should have been held accountable for it).
I deleted my Vinted account as I have no intentions of using it again in the near future and will stick with eBay (with seller discount fees).
PhilipMarc I'm sorry that you have had a bad experience with Vinted I only joined up last month and have had a good experience with both selling and buying.
Chelsea0121 I appreciate.
In general, I prefer eBay's payment system and scammers are easier to take down / block from making bids just to waste time.
I currently have three buyers who still haven't paid, and I've sent them reminders. And they all have great feedback, so I'll wait until the final day (when it can be canceled for nonpayment).
How many market place groups are you on for Facebook. Try and join all of the group's if possible. Also download app such as Vinted and Depop you can sell things other than clothes on there. Try find out if you have any car boots local to your area and go there and try sell stuff at carboot too
The British Expats Discussion Forum is full of information and help about living in every country in the world. britishexpats.com/forum/
A really useful resource - and you don’t have to be British!
Where are you moving to?
Johnny The comedic part of the term "expat" is that it's just another word for immigrant. I guess they didn't like it, even if they are which there's nothing wrong with it.
Typically, an immigrant is someone who comes to live permanently in a foreign country.
Whereas an expatriate/expat whilst living outside their native country temporarily, is rarely doing so permanently.
Then there's the emigrant who's also an immigrant.... I wonder what they are when they are half way there.
