Do You Say Thanks to the Bus Driver?
Ask a Question
Everyone tips a taxi driver but not a bus driver who probably earns half what a taxi driver earns. Everyone tips a hairdresser but not a podiatrist or dentist. It's all very strange and very unfair.
I think at the very least a polite thanks is good! I always do that.
Always say thank you. My little boy always makes a point of saying thank you to driver as well. He also gives them a or . If he satisfied with his journey or not. He brutally honest sometimes. . He don't like it when bus stops to much. He doesn't like it if another bus overtakes. Poor drivers don't stand a chance half the time.
Yes I do say thank you,I've always had nice bus drivers. Got lost a few times and given directions by helpful bus drivers x
I always say thank you to everyone when someone moves out of my way or opens a door for me it's just manners
yeah its pretty standard and expected to say please and thankyou to a bus driver, manners cost nothing and mean something
I very rarely take the bus, but if I do then yes I'll thank the driver. Tipping a hairdresser though? I can't say I do that. In fact the way my hair is going I think they should give me money back
Always. We don’t use a bus but when we go to edinburgh we always say Thankyou. It’s manners x
I have not been on a bus in the last 20 years, but Generally I thank people that deserve it.
I don't really use the bus either but when I do, I Thank the driver, even if they're the grumpy sort, as manners cost nothing.
It’s not very often I use a bus but If I use the bus and I get off I always say thank you as manners don’t cost anything
I say thank you to every bus driver. My regular timed morning bus is most often the same miserable driver. I always shout thank you to him when getting off, just hoping he might one day crack a smile!
Yes I always do and so do my children. It can be a difficult job and manners cost nothing.
When I moved to a small Yorkshire village from London and got off the bus without saying anything, the driver asked me if I was OK, a good reminder to mind my manners. I very rarely use the bus but I do thank the driver.
always thank the driver, and actually from my observations most people do, at least down here! I guess in some cities buses with two doors you might not get the chance though
Yes, if I can. And I’ll nod at a train driver if I have to walk past the front of the train to exit the station. It’s customary to give thanks in a lot of the countries I’ve visited, so it’s a bit sad not to see it as much here
I’ve always said thank you to bus drivers. I also tell shop assistants who are stuck on tills, thanks and have a good day.
I very rarely take the bus but when I do I always thank the bus driver. It is just good manners.
Wave my hand, if anything. Not sure they see or care, though.
I do remember many years ago a bus driver was getting very frustrated by a hostile passenger (can't remember if it was a man or a woman) and I passed him a small note saying like "It's not worth it." because it was starting to get out of control. That worked and he nod as a "alright" or "thanks" I reckon.
Most people would just rather: "Not my business. Didn't see or heard anything."
i always say thanks. find it rude if you just walked past the driver. bit of appreciating and good manners cost nothing
I rarely use the bus but there's no way I could get off without saying a big thanks and have a nice day/evening. They do a superb job x
Yes I do indeed only right to as wouldn't of got to my destination. Plus its good manners too.
Yes it feels natural to and I notice if you say thankyou to the driver it's quite likely the person behind you will say it
I do say thanks to the driver but there are unfortunately some drivers who have the politeness of a dead slug.
yes I always say thank you
there are some bus drivers that are so arrogant and won't even say your welcome
but I just let it go over my head,
I just think to myself at least I know I have manners
I hardly say thank you to the bus drivers in Birmingham, West Midlands. They are mostly rude to almost all the passengers - closing the door when you reach to it, leaving too late or earlier than the timetable listed.
I've not caught a bus for many years and in the past they use to drive past the bus stop pretending they haven't seen you...
I think it's what the norm is I didn't say thank you in London, but when I moved to Yorkshire everyone said Thank you, I remember getting off the bus in my village & not saying anything and the driver asking me if I was OK... a timely reminder about my manners or lack there of
100% yes but there is some drivers in the area I live in who work for the bigger company than the other firms .Some of there drivers have the politeness of a dead slug . I always say try to be as nice to the driver as they are with you .
Every time I get off the bus I do say ‘thank you’. Tipping is a very odd thing, like you say why do some people get tipped and not others. In some companies it is frowned upon to tip and the employee is not allowed to receive a tip or gift. All very odd, I believe if someone has gone above their duties they deserve a treat.
Any time that I used a bus I would always thank the driver even if I thought they were miserable and grumpy which used to be the norm, that last time I had any interaction with a bus driver was about 2 weeks ago when I stood in front of the bus and took a photo of the number plate and driver after their driving caused an accident, the driver wasn't pleased.
