Do You Say Thanks to the Bus Driver?

Ask a Question

Image

Everyone tips a taxi driver but not a bus driver who probably earns half what a taxi driver earns. Everyone tips a hairdresser but not a podiatrist or dentist. It's all very strange and very unfair.

I think at the very least a polite thanks is good! I always do that.

Always say thank you. My little boy always makes a point of saying thank you to driver as well. He also gives them a 👍 or 👎. If he satisfied with his journey or not. He brutally honest sometimes. 😂🤣. He don't like it when bus stops to much. He doesn't like it if another bus overtakes. Poor drivers don't stand a chance half the time. 🤣🤣🤣

I very rarely take the bus, but if I do then yes I'll thank the driver. Tipping a hairdresser though? I can't say I do that. In fact the way my hair is going I think they should give me money back 😆

I say thank you to every bus driver. My regular timed morning bus is most often the same miserable driver. I always shout thank you to him when getting off, just hoping he might one day crack a smile!

When I moved to a small Yorkshire village from London and got off the bus without saying anything, the driver asked me if I was OK, a good reminder to mind my manners. I very rarely use the bus but I do thank the driver.

always thank the driver, and actually from my observations most people do, at least down here! I guess in some cities buses with two doors you might not get the chance though

Yes, if I can. And I’ll nod at a train driver if I have to walk past the front of the train to exit the station. It’s customary to give thanks in a lot of the countries I’ve visited, so it’s a bit sad not to see it as much here

I’ve always said thank you to bus drivers. I also tell shop assistants who are stuck on tills, thanks and have a good day. Image

Wave my hand, if anything. Not sure they see or care, though.

I do remember many years ago a bus driver was getting very frustrated by a hostile passenger (can't remember if it was a man or a woman) and I passed him a small note saying like "It's not worth it." because it was starting to get out of control. That worked and he nod as a "alright" or "thanks" I reckon.

Most people would just rather: "Not my business. Didn't see or heard anything."

I hardly say thank you to the bus drivers in Birmingham, West Midlands. They are mostly rude to almost all the passengers - closing the door when you reach to it, leaving too late or earlier than the timetable listed.

I think it's what the norm is I didn't say thank you in London, but when I moved to Yorkshire everyone said Thank you, I remember getting off the bus in my village & not saying anything and the driver asking me if I was OK... a timely reminder about my manners or lack there of 😁

Every time I get off the bus I do say ‘thank you’. Tipping is a very odd thing, like you say why do some people get tipped and not others. In some companies it is frowned upon to tip and the employee is not allowed to receive a tip or gift. All very odd, I believe if someone has gone above their duties they deserve a treat.

Any time that I used a bus I would always thank the driver even if I thought they were miserable and grumpy which used to be the norm, that last time I had any interaction with a bus driver was about 2 weeks ago when I stood in front of the bus and took a photo of the number plate and driver after their driving caused an accident, the driver wasn't pleased.
