Scam Calls
Ask a Question
I’ve just had a chat with my grandad and while he’s been waiting a while for his renewed driver’s license to come back he has called the dvla a couple of times to chase and been charged £3.60 per minute.
I can see what he’s done, he’s searched it online and called the number on the first link. I’m sure most younger people would see it’s obviously a fake and a scam but unfortunately, he had no idea.
Not even sure if it’s possible but does anyone have any advice on how to go about getting this site/phone number reported or shut down?
It’s horrible to see elderly getting scammed like this it can really effect their self esteem
That is disgusting. I feel bad for your granddad. I'm quite happy my grandparents aren't on the internet, they'd probably get conned as well
No I'm afraid it has been going on for years . You name it the scammers on on it with impunity . Passports , Health cards, DVLA , bus passes even prescription exemptions are just a few of them . Genuine sites will always be https://www.gov.uk/ . Other sites may or may not "facilitate" your application but there is absolutely no reason or requirement to use them .
Sorry to hear this happened to your grandad
I know it’s not much help now but there is a website that provides free/cheaper alternative to the premium numbers that companies use
https://www.saynoto0870.com/search.php
The website design does look a bit http://myfirstwebsite.com/ but I’ve found it very useful and it’s saved me money!
