Seeing Your Doctor in a Day Max 2 Weeks Waiting
In the News
This is the latest from The Health Minister.
I will be very interested to see how this goes!
Just getting them to answer the phone takes mine about an hour and I can’t possibly imagine how many patients they have at my surgery!!
Health and Social Care Secretary and Deputy Prime Minister, Thérèse Coffey, will set out an expectation that anyone who needs an appointment should get one at a GP practice within 2 weeks – and patients with the most urgent needs should be seen within the same day
I'll believe it when I see it. It takes 30 mins to get through to the doctors by phone and two weeks to get a phone consultation by someone who is a Locum Doctor, who really doesn't know your case history which worries me.
Sugarbabe exactly what I was thinking and when you phone you have to then convince a Receptionist that your pain etc is urgent.
Once I was told I needed to call back in 3 minutes!!!
It'll never work! I wanted to see my doctor last month (a rarity) - I finally got a 'phone' appointment 4 weeks later!
I use Doctorlink. Last Friday I filled it in on the app at 8.15am. The surgery called me at 8.45am. I was invited over to sit in the sit and wait clinic. I was seen about 9.05am. Not by a doctor but a nurse who diagnosed me and prescribed some medication. I thought that was pretty good.
eyeballkerry that’s brilliant. In a lot of cases we only really need to see a nurse who can then prescribe some medicine
jillylovesyou Yes it worked his time but on a previous occasion the nurse was unable to prescribe the drug I needed so it was a wasted appointment.
eyeballkerry I’ve not heard of Doctorlink. Please explain if you have time. I can’t see if our GPs are part of that service.
Pjran To be honest I can’t remember what I did. There is an app so I probably downloaded that first and followed instructions, sorry can’t be more helpful.
Remember when you could get an Gp or dentist appointments easily, wonder if those days will ever return.
TheChimp that is insane! Well done on getting the dentist. At this rate they will all be going bust in 20 years as nobody will have any teeth left to treat!
Howmuch doubt it! Might book myself on a Medical course and buy a pair of pliers. DIY Style
jillylovesyou most of dentists around here are now private practices and believe me they’re not going bust.
Took me 6months to actually see a doc, had a few phone call from people saying someone else will phone and book an appointment, not sure why they could not but still...
jillylovesyou sure is! It's tiring chasing up or waiting for something to happen. I don't for a sec believe that 2weeks max.
typical of this government - their only plan is to tell GPs to see patients within two weeks - without actually sorting out any of the issues in the first place. There is a tiny amount of money for a few things which might help a little bit in some circumstances. I had a phone call from a GP regarding a recent blood test. He told me I need to see the nurse - but have to wait for her to call me - which took just over a week and she has managed to fit me in in three weeks - so 4 week wait from the blood test. And thats only to see the nurse.
For my GP surgery we fill out a form on their website giving details of our illness. The doctor called me back a couple of hours later for a consultation.
He prescribed medication and the prescription was sent straight to my local pharmacy to collect.
Saved me lots of time not having to travel to see the doctor. Some people complain about this system but I like it.
I've never had a problem getting through to the Dr's, I've had a problem with them not doing the paperwork side of things for my son and him not getting hid flu vaccine until I went down there and demanded it. Our Dr's are brilliant otherwise.
Watching Russell Howard earlier and he made a really good point about the government. He said in 2010 it was a 2 day wait now we have to wait 2 weeks. #Gettingworse
So another thing I really want to try is when and not if I get my next telephone conversation I go to the doctor's and answer the phone in the doctor's surgery and have the chat like I did today when I was at the supermarket. Imagine what it would be like because currently at our doctor's if you get a appointment your told they will call you this morning or they will call you this afternoon but no appointment time . Imagine if everyone turned up at the surgery and sat in the reception area till the phone call arrived. Not only would the surgery resemble a&e on a Friday night but the receptionist would quitting there jobs as wannabe doctor's .
I had reason to phone GP yesterday 8am. Took 3 attempts 8.05. They then give you the option of getting a call back while holding your place in the queue. Call back came 8.25 appointment with Nurse Practitioner made for 10.20 same day. All good. Took all day to get prescription from pharmacy, they hadn't got script, pharmacist was on lunch, finally got it at 4.45pm. If you can get through on phone between 8 - 8.15 you will get same day appointment, they won't make one for the following week, whereas they will if you just need to see a Nurse.
With all the additional borrowing the government is doing that means more interest payments and more services will be cut back. The government is already looking at another round of public sector redundancies. I don't see how such services can improve when we are becoming a much poorer nation so there is less money to go around. I realise the NHS can be very wasteful of money and that can be improved but that hasn't been mentioned its just the government setting goals that the NHS will struggle to meet without more resources. It's all lip service to the public, some will be fooled but most won't be.
At some point we will just have to accept we are a much poorer country and lower our expectations of public services. It's a farce to pretend we can carry on as we are with all the debt we are servicing, the lack of industry and a large trading deficit.
We are going to have to prioritise services that we really need and let less important services we can't afford go.
