Selling Clothes

Ask a Question

I'm wanting to sell some of my clothes that I've never worn and won't fit me anymore and some of my sons clothes that he has never worn. I know about fb marketplace and I'm on a local selling site but was wondering if there were any other places that were good for selling clothes.

Whenever I have sold my clothes before I normally list them on eBay. I normally do normal auction listing for 7 days at a 99p start and no reserve. Although I did go through a stage of listing items at a Buy it now price but open to offers. I sold most of the things I wanted to on eBay. You can write in your listing that your having a clear out and to check out your other items, and if you wanted you could offer combined postage for the same sellers who want numerous items which may help attract more buyers ☺️ x

Do the buyers pay for the postage? Also do you pay fees on ebay? I would prefer for it to be a local buyer so they can either pick it up or I can drop it off, but if the buyer pays postage then I would be willing to post them.

MrsCraig yes, I always made sure I got the buyers to cover postage, I normally just post standard 2nd class which costs £3, however some buyers may try it on so you may want to charge for Signed for postage.. or alternatively you can use myHermes which is roughly £2.85 per packages and you have cover upto £20, and it is tracked. You can also offer local collection on eBay x

I'm planning to sell them as a bundle, but to also offer if anyone wants to be an individual item to let me know.

MrsCraig that would work on local selling pages but that option wouldn't work with ebay

Ann1984 I'm going to put them on my local selling page first and then if they don't sell after a while I will put them on ebay.

I think ebay is the best online platform. I usually list everything to end on a Sunday evening. Iv tried Depop but found it a waste of time. Lots of daft messages & only a few sales. You could consider a car boot especially if you had alot of items. I'm planning to do one this Summer.

Car boot would be a bit difficult with my son. Can you set a price for an item on ebay or is it auction only type of thing? Never used it before.

MrsCraig ah yes of course. Yes you can set a buy now price. If you go with buy now listing I'd suggest you allow best offers. I tend to just list my items in a auction tho starting just under the price I want to achieve.

Glitterandgold thanks, I obviously don't want them to go for less than a certain amount so that's good to know.

MrsCraig Its also worth searching your item & checking sold items for an idea of what your items worth before listing it, also try to use key words such as item style / occasion / print etc. It can get you more interest & hence hopefully more money.

Glitterandgold that's a brilliant idea, I will do that. I'm going to put in as much detail as possible. I've got a few occasion dresses to sell, either never worn or worn once for about 3 hours and they were expensive so want to get a little back for them.

I’ve used Preloved in the past with limited success, but I’ve never had time wasters and all listings are free, so there’s no harm in trying. Other platforms will probably shift your goods faster

I will give it a try. The more places they are one the more chance they will sell. My husband says I won't sell them or won't get what I want for them, but I would rather give it a try first.

MrsCraig I agree, and there’s no harm as it’s free 😊

I have used eBay in the past which used to be quite good and less hassle and means the other person doesn’t know where you live , apart from having to visit the post office to post than putting on facebay and answering numerous messages of is this still available? Would you accept? (Which is usually always less than advertised price) can you deliver? And then sorting out a convenient time for them to come to your own personal home to collect.

I already have bags and bags if clothes that are going to charity, as well as some of his other baby items. But the dresses I have were expensive, as were some of his baby clothes and with me not working at the moment, a little bit extra money would be useful.

Personally I'd use eBay - have found this is a good and easy way to sell clothes online. I have friends that use Depop and have heard this is really good for selling clothes.

Everyone is saying ebay but I would rather not pay the fees of I don't have too, so going to do local selling page, gumtree etc as they are free.

I use fb marketplace or depop for more expensive branded items and the rest i leave until we do car boot sales in the summer. I havent got the time for taking photos, taking the time to do a listing on ebay, paying fees (not sure now but last time it cost more to list an item with a reserve ot buy it now price), theb paypal also take a cut of the money, then taking to post office and hoping it got there if not paypal will refund the buyer and then you have to make a claim with the royal mail. I like buying on ebay but apart from the odd item selling is too much hassle.

I haven't got the time to be doing all that either! I'm going to use fb marketplace, much easier for me. Might look into depop for my dresses as they were expensive.

Ebay is terrible for selling clothes. Facebook always seems to be my best bet when having a clear out unfortunately
