Do You Write a Shopping List?
Money Saving
Do people write shopping lists before they do a food shop I certainly do and it saves me a fortune I go off a good plan and stick to it
I do otherwise I end up just buying all sorts of useless bits and end up forgetting what I actually needed
Yes I do. I use a meal planner I bought from the pound shop, I plan what we will have each night & make a list of things I need to get & any store cupboard ingredients i need to replace plus any generals milk, butter etc. Then I will add a couple of treats on at the end for us all, usually whatever is on offer. I always do food shop online. Not only does it save us money we also eat alot healthier this way.
Glitterandgold I do this and since I started it I've saved a fortune. I also give myself a budget for the month for food and essentials and try not go over it to much which I rarely do
Billie Yep, we've saved a fortune since iv been doing ours this way. I prefer to do online as if we go to the supermarket even with a list we spend more as (mostly OH) gets lurid in by deals on shelves.
Glitterandgold I keep saying I'm going to meal plan, but with two fussy children. One that's starting to get more picky one that eats anything and a big kid ( daddy) who decides when he comes home from work that he's brought something quick from the shop. ( Usually his steamed pastas from farmfoods, he obsessed with them at moment). It just ends up more stressful as there is always someone who refuses to eat what iv planned. Xx
tracisinclair01 Ah, It's easier for us as we are a house of adults. My eldest son is the pickiest so he often ends up picking up his own tea. I would see if you can all decide on at least one meal a week to agree on & start from there. Even one could make a difference to your budget.
I used to be a proper search of deals before shop and always a list with me but now life is too busy and grab whatever I need whenever I need.
i should but i take 5 kids with me each trip and my head feels scrabbled by the time i even entertain list lol
I shop online now, i add thing to my basket as i go and when i run out of things i desperately need i pay for my shopping. I dont scroll through and look at the deals, i think thats how shopping gets pricey then, just stick to what you need x
No, I tend to food shop most days, so I usually purchase a relatively small number of items each time. I just memorize what I want to buy. Although, I like buying products I haven't tried before and also look for things on offer, so I often leave the shop with a different set of goods than I originally intended.
I do and stick mostly to it. If the hubby decides to join in on the shopping trip though, it takes twice as long and the bill is almost doubled
Yes, I have a slim note book on the fridge so when something runs out stick it straight on the list but then generally forget to take the list shopping, but the thought was there
Yes I do, especially when I shop on a budget. Definitely saves me time and money and keeps my kids occupied while shopping
I keep meaning to. Going to start as I'm sure it'll help with my spending and with picking up items I don't really need x
I normally jot a few things down on a post it and end up coming out of the shop with an extra 2 - 3 bags of shopping . I really should be more organised and write a proper list and stick to it. Sending my partner out is best as he'll come back home with exactly what I asked for, nothing more, nothing less. ha ha.
We have a whiteboard in the kitchen and we write things on it as and when we run out and then before we go shopping I take a picture of the board on my phone lol kind of a modern day shopping list!
Yes, I do and it definitely is a cheaper, more effective shop than when I forget the list.
I try to write the list in order for the shop too, save me missing things, or buying more!
I do all the shopping online but get my wife to write out a list of what she needs - then I add the basics and anything else I fancy - starting off with whats on offer and any new products I have seen advertised or on Instragram. Love trying out new products although Tesco in Plymouth often seem to be the last place to actually get them in stock. Apart from forgetting items if I dont have a list - I also use it to check prices against previous weeks (going back to January!) so I recognise true deals and dont buy at high prices.
If I need more than just a couple of food items then I usually jot down a little list to take with me.
No I don’t really do a shopping list but I always check offers and buy several to stock up.
Yes always to a shopping list as otherwise I’ll buy things then get home realise I hadn’t bought items I really needed
we have lists as forgetting what we need means another long bus journey or delivery ..... also, I wangle the purchases to suit what's on offer when I can to save more by buying one week and not another if it helps.
Of course it helps me keep up with what im needing and what im low on so I dont go buying random things I dont need
Sort of. I have been shopping online for over a year now so I add things to my order (which is saved) during the week and then book a delivery slot when ready.
Pre Covid I did in-store and online and usually did take a shopping list with me. It is too easy to overspend if you don't.
I do and write the things in order as well so when I go in I don't have to go back to some aisles.
Yes but I rarely stick to it. I still havnt mastered the food shopping / cooking with no waste. That's probably my biggest waste
Yes, i do a weekly menu and my shop on a monday. I write down all my ingredients i need and stick to it. Mainly because i hate saying 'what do you want for dinner tonight' and its just easier.
I tend to add to the echo list first and then load those items to the online order before delivery. I haven't made a physical list for ages.
Yes I always write a shopping list before I go. I check what we have in the cupboards, fridge and freezer first, then figure out what meals we are going to have and write down what we need. I tend to do a big monthly shop and just top up with bread and milk when needed. It has saved us a fortune on food.
I just do online shopping type in what I need and don’t look at other stuff. That’s trying to attempt you in...
I do as I always tend to forget something if I don’t. I always end up picking up things that are not on the list too
Yes I do. If I run out of an item or if I am planning a certain dish I'll add things to a list.
Yes I do,otherwise I will not buy all what I need,I forgetting half and would need to go again
I have an app called
Shop shop. It’s great. Coz sometimes you won’t get an item in one shop. So good to look to see what you need for other. Like vanilla pods etc that won’t be top of your mind. It lets you score out too once bought and shows like a notification
No. I try to remember it all in my head and normally pick stuff as I go down lanes but I should start because I come home forgetting to buy the main groceries
Even though I still do my shopping online I am making notes/lists constantly to make sure that I don't miss anything I want. I think doing the shopping online has saved me money in many ways because:-
It is an hours drive (there and back), so I save on fuel - and use the delivery saver.
I don't see their offers as I walk around the store
I look through 'my favourites' and can't be bothered to search through all the offers online.
Yes the I leave it on the fridge and forget it when I go shopping so I don’t know why I bother lol
Yes, always write a shopping list as my husband does the shopping, he does come home with extras but only good offers, does really well
No, I never do. I tend to buy ad hoc and I’m very strict on budgets and prices. I’ll often Google to check the best deals, and buy late at night to get the discounts
Yes I write a shopping list, but still go home with lots of stuff that wasn't on the list.
Aside from using the Nectar App for my Saved Sainsbury's Offers list, I don't use a shopping list. I food shop fairly frequently, so usually don't have to memorise a long list. Although, I often wait until I'm in the store before deciding what I want to get.
I use an app, called ShoppingUK, from the App Store. You write your list then click "Start" and it sorts it into categories for you. You can add to it at any time and can even send a link to someone else so they can add to it as well. Then when in store you can tick them off. It has really made my in-store grocery shop so much easier
Nope, I keep everything in my head which is not the best. I shop for a lot of people in my household so sometimes I get them to write me a list
Yes I do because before I was buy unnecessary things so decided to buy only what I need at home
