So, Lockdown. Better Alone or with Family?

Other

I am coming at it from a solo point of view and 5/6 weeks in I am coping pretty well. Today is first low day when lack of motivation and boredom has set in.

Advantages are doing what I want, when I want, eat when it pleases me, whatever I like. Total control of the remote and no arguments, big or small.

On the downside I miss my family dreadfully and even my work colleagues and the kids we transport, I won't recognise them when we go back to work! It would be nice to share a film, meal and be motivated to decorate, gardening, cooking etc with a helpmate.

Would you change your situation if you were able?

Personally, I've coped quite well with only a wobble about 4 weeks in. It's been a relief to realise that I actually still like, as well as love my OH! I can't imagine the hell others are going through if there is conflict or abuse. Technology has made life so much easier but I miss the hugs from family and friends. We've already decided to invite a few family members to live with us for a few days when the 'bubble' system is allowed.

It is a blessing to have a loving family and although they cannot come close they have dropped shopping, phoned, texted etc. My sister is feeling it, alone with a foster baby and would love for me to go and stay but of course that is a real no no with the baby. However, it might be ok with the bubble thing you mention.

Lynibis I know you have a great family that look out for you too - it's just the face-to-face we are missing. We have become the 'filters' for other family members that have a CF child so we disinfect food orders, let them stand for a couple of days and then they are collected safely. They couldn't risk going to a supermarket or getting deliveries that haven't haven't a certain safety treatment. Crazy times.

Lynibis ๐ŸŒป ๐Ÿค— I'm coping ok other than worrying about my daughter, I'm quite happy on my own but OH is starting to stress out, he needs to meet people and misses the gym. To be honest days are running into each other and routine has gone out the window, we get up/eat etc when we want, where's the hurry we can't go anywhere.

lilyflower I agree that marking the days is becoming difficult - we started off well but can't always remember if it's Tues or Thurs. I am really missing two sessions of swimming a week and walking around the garden isn't doing it for me. (I did do it in the earlier part of lockdown)

lilyflower I honestly can't begin to comprehend the extra stress you're going through. I have the greatest sympathy for those unable to enjoy personal, outside space .๐Ÿ˜ž

Glad you are coping and hope your OH can find a way to de-stress. Like you I find the days are blurring and weekends have no meaning anymore. I just realise it is weekend by the change in tv programmes!

I am with my husband and son. I am kept very busy with my son and housework so I am coping very well, as is my husband. We don't get in each others nerves and we don't argue so we are absolutely fine spending all our time together. We do worry about my husbands granny and my parents due to their age but we have video calls with them everyday. There have been a few family fallouts (on my husbands side) over a newspaper, toothbrushes, fish, pizza, gardening, iPads and other very petty things. Our sons first proper shoes arrived today, so we are talking him for his first ever proper walk tomorrow afternoon. Only for 5 minutes and just round the street where we live.

I am glad I have company during this time. I enjoy my own company but it is good to have someone to talk to or moan at!

It is certainly a time when couples will find out how deep their love and commitment truly is. Shame that petty arguments can spoil things though, so not worth it.

Lynibis we discovered those things 17 months ago when our son was born and what we went through! My husband and I have been together for 8 years this year and have had one big argument in that time! We don't argue, especially not over petty stuff. It is my mother in law falling out with her mother over petty things. She didn't speak to my father in law for over 24 hours because he commented on how she had hung the washing! She spent an hour on the phone ranting about it!

Been having a good time during the "lockdown", but I'm hoping it ends this upcoming month.
