Soaps... Why Cant a Happy Occasion Be Just that.. Happy ?

I don’t want to give any spoilers !! I dont watch soaps anymore apart from Neighbours cuz everyone knows that’s real and how all Australians live (jokes)

Emmerdale was on the tv in the background and i was singing along to hilly billy rock then ended up watching it.....

nipperjwb Fair enough. I was just assuming it must have been to do with that as I knew it was happening last night. My mum and mother in law watch them. They say it is an escape from everyday life. I would rather escape into a comedy!

For all we know neighbours is an accurate account of how Australians live!

MrsCraig as much as I would like to find out for real if Neighbours is a docusoap (though I very much doubt that ) I’m afraid of flying !!

Im like you and would rather escape in comedy than the darkness that has become most soaps.

nipperjwb unfortunately I think you might be right! But it would be lovely to find out! My husband isn't a fan of flying either.

I know that soaps are supposed to replicate real life so that they are relatable but they take it a bit too far sometimes!

Lisa died soon afterwards, you sort of know it's going to happen that way! She wanted to leave and retire which is fair enough so I don't see what else they could have done really! I'm not sure Soaps reflecting real life is always a good thing, yes, they do get some high profile topics across to viewers but so much of it is doom and gloom, sometimes you just want escapism!

JoTarpley NOOOO!! Not Lisa! I don't watch it anymore but I remember her in it from when I was young! I agree that they get a lot of high profile issues across but as you say, it's too much doom and gloom. There needs to be some happiness!
