Are Sodastreams worth It?

Ask a Question

Do you have one? If so, would you recommend it? I know the price of the device itself isn’t that expensive, but the refills aren’t cheap

My Mum bought us all one when they first came in.

The novelty fast wore off though when we realised it would be cheaper to just by the fizzy drinks rather than the expensive gas bottles.

I thought that would be the case for me too. Since the likes of Lidl and Aldi, I can get fizzy water for 17p without any hassle, so it makes me think it’ll be redundant to get the device

No. Buy sparkling water and cordials it's the same thing but cheaper

Environmentally, then yes it may be worth it, in order to save the plastic and stuff you'd buy with a water bottle, but I'm not sure if the pressure bulbs you use, are environmentally friendly?

I don’t like sparkling water so I personally wouldn’t purchase one. On their advert they state help the environment by using our reusable soda stream bottle, but you can just purchase a reusable water bottle that does the same job expect for make the water sparkling!

I remember when these came out in the 1980s. I begged my mum to get one. She got one free with a catalogue as a gift. Much excitement. I used to press the button. No fizz. I would press it again and it would explode all over the kitchen. How I enjoyed cleaning it all up... I don't know if soda streams still do explode, but it very quickly ended up in a cupboard and I'm guessing got thrown out at some point. Pretty useless.

I don't like sparkling water so I wouldn't get one. We had one when I was a kid and I used it for the novelty but didn't really like it then either

I think they always have a fake taste, when I was a child my Mum was really stingy with the syrup so it always tasted awful

A throw back to the 70's/80's where they should be left, don;t think they serve any purpose these days. Back in the day Fizzy drinks were more expensive in the shops and not so readily available as they are now ( we used to have Popman deliver us 2 bottles every week ), so this item was popular and it was fun as kid.

These days supermarkets are everywhere opening 24/7 and fizzy drinks are really cheap especially if you buy own brand , soda stream I'm sure still has the novelty value, but with the cost of the gas and cordial now it's not a cheap option for what is a a pretty poor tasting fizzy drink.
