Staycation or Holiday Abroad after Lockdown
Ask a Question
When the lockdown is over and borders open up, are you planning holiday in the UK or abroad.
I'm hoping to go to Denmark to see my family.
I'm planning to leave my village for the first time in two months (or longer if necessary) and work it out as I go along.
Not keen on going back on planes anytime soon.
I'd love to visit my family in France though, i was supposed to go the week France went in lockdown so that didn't happen.
gaelle0501 How far do you live from the South coast? I drove to France via a Channel ferry and the roads there are alright.
Sorry to hear that you were not able to go to see your family. I wasn't able to go to visit my family last year and now I don't know when it will be possible.
I guess we just have to be patient and wait until it is safe to travel again.
Holiday excuses used to be βcant afford itβ, now I have the money I am too afraid to travel anywhere. May just land up camping in my back garden!
That's what I'm doing camping in the garden as was due go away camping so thorght why not x
It will be interesting to see what the decision is on holiday lets such as cottages, campsites etc in the UK and if these will be permitted to open over the next month or two. Even if there is an initial decision to agree I think it is risky given what's happened with other countries after relaxing restrictions and there could then be backtracking.
I should have been in Maldives and India now. Whilst I am keen to travel abroad again I think there will be issues with some worldwide destinations granting visas and wanting to keep the virus contained.
Can't see holidays being a real possibility for us this year, normally go abroad but that's not an option for us this year now , so maybe some day trips and odd weekends away in the UK.
Mango4 that's what I'm wondering - I mean will day trips and weekends in UK be allowed. I am guessing UK beaches, Wales, Scotland and Lakes will be popular but will this be permitted - who knows.
rararachel Will just have to wait and see I suppose , I wasn't thinking before August at the very earliest, by then I would hope many of the tourist attractions would be back operating in some form, thou maybe not exactly be like they were before. I hope so anyway as so many people are reliant on tourism to earn a living in many areas around the country.
I would love to get away but don't think it will be this year. This topic reminded me of something I watched on daytime tv - There are hundreds of British workers still stuck on the cruise ships and can't get home, even though the passengers were taken off in March. They've been confined to their pokey cabins for most of their day and mental health issues rife - makes my holiday hope seem trivial.
It may be difficult for a lot of people to take a holiday this year. Many will find it a little awkward to ask employers for a week or two off when the lockdown finally ends. A lot of companies will now be struggling financially and may have to layoff staff. Asking for even more time off if you haven't worked for 2 months+ could potentially have a detrimental impact on your employment status. Especially if you work for a company that doesn't treat employees very well.
No plans yet. My job involves travelling and staying over in hotels. At the moment working from home but nervous about the idea of going travelling at the minute. Iβm going to see how well I do with that first
I was meant to be in California holidays anyhow still want to go there but definitely not this year , would love to move out of UK ( even more now ) bit donβt want to take any planes this year so thinking of driving whenever we can , and sell our apartment whenever we can , it will be long drive but might be safer than planes and airports
Caravan holiday booked for September but got realise won't happen x things are never going be the same again for anyone even when this all over anywhere life is too short x
Weekend away in the UK somewhere and plan something big elsewhere - just not sure where yet! Or when...
Absolutely not thinking of a holiday at this time. Everyone, other than front-line key workers, have just been at home for months. I think a lot of people will be strapped for cash, so holidays will not be front and centre in a lot of peoples' minds.
My holiday, that I should have been on this week, had to be cancelled. My partner is struggling to get the money back that he has spent at Spanish Hotels who are refusing to give it back. In my mind that is theft! Luckily we have travel insurance that should pay out to cover these costs. Easyjet seems to be offering a full refund, but we will have to wait. Lastminute.com looks like they will indeed give a full refund; eventually.
It will be interesting to see how the general public react to Boris' statement last night. It was not clear at all. Lots of debate and lots of questions...
Xx
I am wondering whether people will all flock to go on holiday when they can, or not, because of either money issues or being scared to maybe.
I hope you and your partner get your money back.
You're right, Boris' statement was not clear.
MeestairChrees I know some people who are eager to go abroad to see loved ones but also people who are scared and really don't want to go anywhere anytime soon.
I think even if it is plausible that abroad travel restrictions are lifted, I would probably not think it safe to do so. I am in no rush to, not because I don't want to travel, but I think my priorities have shifted a lot. I am not even banking on a 'staycation' although if this is possible that would be lovely.
We really look forward to our yearly holiday abroad but even if we can go this year I will definitely be giving it a miss, donβt think Iβd feel comfortable, itβs bad enuff if you have to go to the shops if you canβt get an online delivered and as we donβt know if we have the virus you wouldnβt want to risk giving it to anyone else Safer to avoid any unnecessary travel at the moment but of coarse this is just my personal opinion
