Sugar Tax
In the News
I read that they could scrap sugar tax honestly it makes no difference to me or my family as all but what are your thoughts?
I really hope they do, it really annoys me having to pay more for full fat coca cola, considering aspartame (which is used in many diet drinks) has health risks I've never really understood the justification.
Midnightflower myself have never been a fan of coca cola I always have Pepsi Max now with lime as I don't like the feeling of full fat coke makes my teeth feel lol but I understand it's down to the person if they want to drink it I've never agreed with the sugar and I honestly don't know if it's made any difference to the nhs
Leannexxx I use a straw, which helps alot with your teeth. I really wish I liked pepsi, coke is far to expensive but I've never found a cheaper alternative I like. I don't drink alcohol or eat sweets and other than coke only drink water and occasionally juice, but it is on my list of things I need to give up.
Midnightflower lol there are lot more things that's worst for you I'm lucky that my kids don't like sweets ,or coke but have abit of Pepsi when I get a bottle and that's not often they normally have cordial we have the odd take away as we don't drink alcohol either but we are smokers
Leannexxx I'm a smoker too, I'm planning to try and give up sometime soon but I can't work out the best way to do it. It cost far to much now and I'm fed up of paying for it.
Midnightflower if you find a shop like me it's alot cheaper lol serious tho I did try to stop and used vape but it hurt my throat after a few days but I know loads of people stopped smoking but now addicted to vaping
Leannexxx I've never been convinced vaping is any better. I think it will be considered as bad as smoking eventually. I did find out about a cheaper shop locally, but I've not tried it. My mum has COPD, so I think my time has come to give up or at least try.
Midnightflower I agree but I do believe until your ready to give up no matter how hard you try you won't my friend smoked 80 day and one day she said I'm done smoking and she did it no patches or vapes she's not smoked now for 3 years wish I could do that
I am not put off by the sugar tax. It should never of being introduced in the first place.
Takeaways charge you money for a full meal and then charge extra on top to upgrade your water to a sugary drink i hope the tax goes i know things are going up but some businesses are just taking it a step too far
It has not stopped our family. We have continued to purchase what we want. We eat in moderation and exercise.
I don't tend to buy stuff that is high in sugar anyway so it probably wouldn't make much difference to me anyway.
I'd prefer not to. I'm tired of prices increasing as it is.
I use sugar for my early coffee and not much else, although others use it for cooking cakes, etc, so it matters even more to them.

My favourite cola is Pepsi Max which is sugar free so not effected by the sugar tax on drinks. I recently bought a Stockwell diet cola in Tesco for 20p for 2 litres. Never seen a cola bottle cheaper than that and its ok, actually quite nice when chilled when I'm very thirsty but not a patch on Pepsi Max. I do think tax can work to reduce consumption of unhealthy foods. Of course it won't effect all people but it puts additional financial pressure on people to use less of such products so will mean people buy less, use it less or switch to diet alternatives.
