Do Supermarkets Come Back with Bags of Shopping They Missed Giving You?

Ask a Question

Thought was doing so well today when the delivery driver rang and asked if he could come early....but now find two? Bags of shopping missing...wonder if should do a new order or will they bring them?

I wouldn't have thought that they'd bring them as they're probably reported as delivered.

If I was you, I'd get onto Customer Service about it.

I would email the supermarket with a list of what’s missing. I’m sure they’ll refund you but you may want to suggest they arrange a free delivery.

always call them! They are usually pretty good at sorting things out but I doubt if they would get another delivery out - usually just a refund.

Thanks, yes studied the website and found a form to report missing items for refund, you would have thought they could just bring it tomorrow, but no suggestion of it

Sarahvwomble which supermarket is it? I’m with Tesco and normally just email them to complain if items are missing. They gave me a £5 goodwill gesture voucher the last time which was most appreciated!

A bit late to answer you now but if you call customer service right away they will sort it out. Or the driver realises they left a crate in the truck and comes back (that happened to my mother in law)

As a delivery driver for Sainsbury's, I've had two occasions where I've realised I've not delivered everything to a customer: the first time due to confusion over what I had and hadn't scanned, the second because I'd been given a redelivery without any paperwork and it had been stacked in two separate spots in the van.

In both cases, I made a return visit to each customer as soon as I realised and could fit them in again.

Now, if the problem is that the driver simply doesn't have it in the back of their van, there's not a lot they can do. I've only once had a missing crate, despite it being scanned as being loaded, we get an option to ask the customer if they want to be refunded or redelivered, though next day.

If a driver has delivered everything they have for you, but you still find items missing, double check your delivery email as sometimes items might not have been available with no reasonable substitute. If you're still missing items, absolutely contact the relevant supermarket and inform them. Whilst there's meant to be an expectation that a customer checks off the items as they unload them, we do realise it's unlikely that most will do so as the time cost is prohibitive when you have a driver stood there trying to leave as soon as possible.
