Supermarkets Issue Urgent Recall of Green Giant Sweetcorn

In the News

Image

Supermarkets including Morrisons, Iceland, Tesco, Sainsbury's and Waitrose have recalled a family food cupboard staple over fears it's unsafe to eat.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has issued a warning to customers who've bought Green Giant Original Sweetcorn.

General Mills, the manufacturer of the tinned food, 'recalls Green Giant Original Sweetcorn because some seams may be faulty due to a packaging fault, which could make this product unsafe to eat,' according to the FSA.

On 30 April, General Mills made a statement on the Food.gov.uk website that said:

'All consumers who have bought this product with the above date code should not consume them.'

I find this quite worrying and am just going to check the corn that I have in the cupboard....

I bought some green giant sweetcorn, will need to check the date code. We have however already eaten some of it.

I recently bought some of these but haven’t still got the receipt! I suppose I could see if the shop will refund regardless. Thanks for the information tumblespots

I'd give it a go, when it comes to recalls I would like to think that they have more leeway in refunding! 🐞

TheChimp I read the post correctly. I have two tins of an indicated batch number. However, I haven’t got the receipt. The post states that you may need to produce it.

gerrykelly25 I never suspected that you hadn't read it and wondered why the details were repeated? I'd still try and return them to any supermarket, aren't they honour bound to ensure that you are poisoned? 🐞

They're never very specific with the level of danger are they? For all we know, it could just give you a slightly dodgy stomach but they leave it completely open to cause panic. It's because they're doing this; not out of care but to cover their backs, just in case there's an issue during this "where there's blame, there's a claim" era.

You are welcome. I was concerned as I had bought some on an internet order but luckily not from these batches. 🐞
