It Must Surely Be Time to Ban "Click and Paste " Deals on Latest Deals ?

Then all you have to do is click on the deal ! Voila ! a full and accurate description of the item magically appears .

At least it would stop the "click and paste for points " members from posting their 3 daily deals all within 2 minutes (as you can see many do ) . The majority can't even have read the "non deal" in that time !

At least by introducing the deal in their own words members would need to realise what they are posting that is so obviously not happening with many members at present .

Firstly how do you judge a "% saving " on Amazon marketplace deals ,where the original price is invented out of thin air ?

Secondly is click on "get deal " on the deal post to reveal the details too complicated or time consuming?

I think you are finding problems where there are none .

The real problem is members "speed posting " non deals via click and paste just for the points . This then clogs up the site with hundreds of non deals every day .

Golfforall I do remember as a new member being asked for more details and thinking, 'well surely if they are interested they can click on the deal' but it was regarded as missing info.

I rarely disagree with you but I would sooner see the professional blurb on an item rather than what the poster thinks. And believe it or not people don't always want to click on the deal and be taken from the page when skimming through.

I honestly don't understand why you are against cut and paste as it is accurate and not a biased poster's thoughts. Why do we have to spend even more time writing our own blurb?

PS writing your own blurb would not stop the deals being posted, quicker slower, clogging or not, they would still get on there.

Lynibis I'm sorry but you miss my point . Click and paste deals can (and are ) posted in 10 seconds ! 3 in a minute ! Hardly time for any thought about the "deal", normally Amazon market place deals with a totally fictional "saving " .

Just check the timeframes on the deals page for many members posting their 3 daily non deals ( all 3 very often in the same minute) , and you will see what I mean .

Golfforall well we will have to agree to disagree and I don't doubt the timelines, but tbh there is no way I can post a deal in less than 2 or 3 minutes. However, I am not ashamed to admit I post deals for points as they are an incentive, otherwise I would forget or wouldn't bother. Why would I spend so many hours on this site when I could use my time more wisely.

But......and it is a big but, I try very hard to post deals that are interesting and good value. I don't think I have ever posted a deal with less than 10% off and certainly never post grocery items with only 10p off as some folk do. I agree that is annoying but I long ago learned to let go of things that I have no control over.

I think you need to stop stressing over all the faults you perceive on here or you will blow a gasket.

JessHindle I'm just stating facts - not entering a popularity contest ! I post deals to help others , not to earn points .

The site gets its income from referral fees (click throughs) . Members posting poor deals still expect their points (at present ), but with so many poor deals posted the revenue will obviously fail to cover the cost of the vouchers given as rewards .

We should all strive to post good deals as many less savvy members rely (and believe) that the deals on here are actually deals !

I think we all agree that 90% of deals posted on here are "non deals " posted just for the points . Where we disagree in how to discourage the posting of such non deals .

Golfforall 90% I think is unfair. I agree tge copious amount of amazon deals can be irritating but and it is a big but Amazon does have some of the best offers.

I can see totally where you are coming from. I respect your view. If cut and post was banned I don't think I would continue. Not because I'm lazy. It would be because I wouldn't see the point in writing my own details about a deal when everything required is there in retailers description. I suspect a lot of people would leave including regular quality contributors.

I think you're onto a loser. The points awarded are nice for what we are expected to do but they aren't generous enough to demand the level of work you're suggesting.

On points. Peoples reasons for using LD are numerous.

Some do the bare minimum to get the points, some contribute a lot. The points are a nice bonus. The latter group include people who need the extra income. There are those who do it regardless of points. Just for the fun. Its a social thing for some. For speaking to people where they may have no other contact that day, I give my voucher redeemed at Amazon to my local food bank. My point is that people's motives for being a part of LD are varied. I wouldn't care to judge anyone. I don't know their circumstances. I don't know their motives.its none of my business to be honest.. The 90% figure you quoted is i think unfair based on this. Thanks

Mrmac I agree with you , however it has become increasingly apparent over the last few months that any old "non deal" is being posted for points .

The trouble with "click and paste " that it enables some members to add 3 "deals" in under a minute with little thought . Just look at the "New deals" page 2 or 3 times a day and see the blocks of 3 deals , 3 vouchers posted by a member within seconds of each other . Obviously no thought or "deal hunting " goes into those .

On another suggestions post I suggested that a time lapse be applied to "Likes" , "Deals" and "Voucher" posts . Say 5 minutes between "Likes" and 15 minutes between each Deals and Voucher posted by an individual member .

At least this would give members a little time to reflect on their "deal" before posting it ?

Golfforall thanks for replying. I totally get what your saying. You know I think the site owners are savvy. They will be looking at stats. They've built this up to a very impressive business model. A successful one. To me it works as if is. I'm sure Tom, Deepak or indeed Kelsey would intervene if things aren't working. I do understand but what you suggest is unworkable. I think it would put a lot of people off. That is the last thing anyone wants. I'll say it again - I get you. I understand what your aim is but personally its OK as it is. I really can't add anymore. Mrmac , @ Kelsey Had a quick scroll through the deals page yesterday and noticed more than 12 members (then gave up counting !) posting blocks of 3 deals and 3 vouchers (all 6 posts within 2 minutes) . That is surely not the spirit of the site ? If I can see it on a quick scroll surely the founders can ?

Kelsey have you given any thought that a minimum time should elapse between posting deals , vouchers as I suggested last week ? Just slowing down members who are obviously just posting any old deal or voucher for the points would ,maybe , give them time to reflect on what they are posting ?

I respect his view as well. Its fun finding and posting deals. Keeps me out of bother ( well not always) good luck with your endeavours. There are a lot of things to get used to but I promise you'll get there in no time at all. We all started as new here. People are friendly ( mostly lol ) and the office staff are brill if you contact them. Good luck Loislane

Loislane but that's a good thing. You can post a little or more. There's no expectations. You can contribute every day or once a week. You're in control. I know about confidence issues. They are hard to overcome.

Totally agree Tom , unfortunately this (the camels ) model doesn't work 100% with "Amazon Marketplace sellers " who are the main culprits for "plucked out of thin air " previous prices to arrive at a massive discount which fools members .

I'm sure we all see the Chinese "tat" posted as deals (IR thermometers , screwdriver sets , cycle lights etc ,etc all made in the same factory with ,sometimes , a different name stamped on the box .

Unfortunately many members don't look at the actual price , just the % discount (which is totally fictitious of course ) . In fact many members post such "deals" based on the fictitious discount (not the actual price ) .

All members have to do before posting such deals is check the similar items on the Amazon page and they will nearly always find the identical thing cheaper (but with a smaller % discount ) .

Members should surely be doing this check anyway before posting their deal ? But the rush to post for points obviously makes this too time consuming for them .

It would be a good start but hopefully you could have a staff member to check out these Amazon marketplace "non deals" and delete them . Maybe getting a couple of deals deleted would encourage members to take a bit more care when selecting their deals before posting ?
