What Surprising Item Could You Now Not Live Without?

Other

You know those things you buy on the spur of the moment that never get used and end up in a dark corner of a cupboard? Well which one has surprised you by becoming indispensable?

Mine is a magnetised timer which clings to my fridge and I use it several times a day. I always forget things in the oven so now it is second nature to set this the moment something goes in, even for boiling eggs or anything that needs timing.

It was £3.99 from Amazon and definitely a 'best buy'.

Sounds handy. I am always scrabbling around in handbag or sideboard draw or running upstairs to office where I have a pot of assorted pens.

A thing I'd really miss is the Echo Dot, I bought myself as my Christmas present (well three of them actually). One in kitchen is useful for timing things and also functions (as others do) as a radio or music player. The one on my bed is probably the most useul, no need to struggle to find the time in the night, I just say (almost whisper) "Alexa time" and she tells me, then when I wake in morning I ask "Alexa who am I?" followed by "Alexa where am I?" she always tells me. That is usually followed by "Alexa temperature" she tells me the outside temperature and the weather if I ask, which allows me to work out whether it's worthwhile getting up.

Microwavable wheat bags. We have various sizes and use them all the time. They are very soothing.

From your comment it would appear to be some sort of item that is warmed in the microwave, but what is it? I have never heard of wheat bags, what are they for? I am curious lol.

Lynibis Yes, they get warmed in the microwave. I have a spinal problem that affects both my neck and back so I love having the neck wheat bag (red) around my neck and shoulders but also use the other one. They are invaluable to me.

neo1 I think I still prefer my red one as I can wrap it round my neck and shoulders but it's good to know that other alternatives are out there. 👍

The Kindle app on my phone. Always thought I didn't need this and only used it for the first time for novelty value. As it turns out, the accessibility features are amazing and you can get audios for many of the books. So it's now indispensable.

I don't have the phone app but have a kindle for reading in bed as it is lightweight. But I also have it on my kindle fire 10". That is awkward and heavy but fine when I am sitting normally downstairs. I must admit I couldn't be without my kindle as reading is a bedtime ritual.

My trolley token. I can't be arsed with all the hassle of obtaining a £1 coin every time I need to use a shopping trolley. I avoid touching cash anyway, unless absolute necessary.
