Swimming aids for children

Ask a Question

I was thinking buying a swimming shark fin for my son, and was wondering if anyone used one, are they effective, and do they help with swimming, or is a kick board, or a pool noodle just as effective. Many thanks in advance.

Pppathome thank you, we currently use arm bands and are finding it restricts the arm movement, when we are trying to teach the little one to swim . The arm band have been amazing though In giving her water confidence. Thank you so much for your comment i really appreciate it 😊

That is brilliant idea, teach them while they are young. I’m 65 and have never learned. I don’t like the water, and must say I’m prob scared. I couldn’t even bring myself to learn . Kept me from enjoying myself. ESP with my grandchildren 😭

CarolSarich thank you . I'm sorry to hear your scared of water. We all have our strengths, so don't put your self down. I sure your grandchildren don't mind , that they don't go swimming.

Water pays an important part of our lives. We've taken the eldest one 2 or 3 times a week since he was a baby . With a lockdown gap in the middle . He loves the water . But doesn't want swimming lessons . So I'm am trying to teach him myself.

My dad taught me to swim in a matter of minutes no aids just in the water and do the motions they will pick it up faster without aids

Pppathome everyone different I guess I’ve learnt a lot of kids in my family and in my experience they figure it out very quickly without the use of aids some do need them no doubt

Mick82 I was put in the middle of the deep end by a family friend when I was around 5 and I panicked terribly, but soon did a doggy paddle to the edge.

It gave me confidence to learn how to swim properly very quickly, but I can see what Pppathome is saying.

TheChimp it is a natural reaction we know how to swim .until we are learnt to fear the water by using aids you think if I let go of this I’ll drowned. I might well be wrong but that’s what I was taught and how I have taught others and I know it worked for me

Mick82 thanks for you comment, not sure I'm ready for that jump yet Of ditching the aids, especially with the little one. But I'm impressed , bit them I'm sure that day will come. Thanks for your comments 🙂
