Swindon Firm Gives Non-Smokers Extra Holiday

In the News

Employees at a recruitment agency are being rewarded with four extra days of holiday for not smoking at work.

KCJ Training and Employment Solutions in Swindon wants to compensate staff who do not smoke, rather than penalise those who do.

Wow, I never thought I would see this happen. How about you? 🐞

I didn’t think any companies would do this. I think it is a good idea because it is an incentive for people who smoke to cut down and hopefully eventually quit, and the non smokers are still allowed the holiday so it doesn’t discriminate against anyone!

It's perfect, a win win situation. All those 10-20 minutes smoke breaks add up and this compensates those who don't smoke. 🐞

What a great incentive to kick the habit! if only my work place would do this I’d love the extra holiday for being a non smoker 😂 rather jealous of those who get this!

Let's hope that it spreads to other firms as non-smokers have always 'dipped out' because of all the breaks smokers get! 🐞

Wow I never thought a company would do that. It’s always been unfair for non smokers that their colleagues could nip out for an extra break.

I didnt realise smokers were able to take extra breaks at work for a cigarette. Wherever ive worked we had to smoke on breaks and lunchtime that everyone had 🤷🏽‍♀️

As a ex smoker (quit 3 yr ago) I never worked anywhere that I was allowed extra breaks for a cig. I had the same breaks as everyone else, I just spent mine outside smoking. I know a lot of call centres do allow them tho so this is a good idea. Seems fair to me.

Everyone should be given equal breaks regardless of if you smoke or not, then no need to give extra holiday.

But what do the non-smokers do with the break - smokers clearly have a purpose. Personally, as a non-smoker, I couldn't just stop for a break if I had a pile of work waiting, I would rather have extra days off. 🐞

I think it depends on your job, I would like the day off but in terms of an office job - It would be better to have a regular break and a walk round tumblespots

MumOfThree Good point, you could spend the day just seated otherwise which is bad for you. 🐞

What other addictions get an extra break, can you go off and snort cocaine or get out a stick of glue and sniff that for five minutes. Cancer is such a horrific illness and wonder how many people would actually have avoided cancer if there were no smoking breaks so had forced them to cut down on smoking or even stop. Personally I just feel the smoking break should come out of their lunch break or they have to leave slightly later. I totally accept though for some jobs that can be very stressful and some people really need to chill out with a smoking break but working conditions should be fair for all and companies shouldn't be encouraging the use of a product that leads to horrific illnesses with shortened lifespans.
