Taking up Knitting Again for the Winter Months
Other
I used to knit a lot, especially baby clothes for the newborns in the family. Suddenly got the urge again but I was shocked by the prices when I went for supplies.
100gms of wool £3.50, knitting needles £3.80 and a single knitting pattern no less than £3.50. A flimsy booklet of several patterns was £9-10.
As you need two sets of needles, a minimum of two balls of wool and a pattern, that is a minimum of £18.10 you can buy a couple of little matinee jackets for less than that. No wonder no one knits any more.
Try buying from a charity shop. I know my local charity shop sells bundles of wool for a really cheap price. Not sure if they still sell knitting needles as one of my local charity shops stopped selling them a while ago as they were deemed dangerous !!!!! I’ve been knitting for years but dispute my best efforts I can still only knit scarfs or blankets
reannsgran oh yes, absolutely. I didn't buy anything in the shop I was in, hobbycraft, determined to get better deals elsewhere. Our local poundstretcher sometimes sells wool but no patterns or needles!
I have some Amazon vouchers and have now seen a set of 11 pairs of metal needles for £9.99. I find metal needles much easier to use than plastic as the wool and needles slide more easily.
So now it's just knitting patterns I need lol. I have a few but would like to knit something knew.
We got my mother in laws knitting needles from Amazon. She says they are brilliant. When my son was younger all of his cardigans and hats were Knitted by his Great Granny, his Great Auntie and his Granny.
I used to knit years ago for my babies making coats, trousers, sleeping bags and buying the equipment was never an issue but I did notice wool prices in a store the other and I was too was shocked.
There are lots of places you can get cheaper supplies by shopping around (like at charity shops, home bargains and online) we have a cheap Arts and Crafts group that will help —- ldeals.uk/crafts
SamGoodship yes deffo, that's why I walked out of hobbycraft empty handed. I notice the link you have is for fb which I only recently signed up to but tbh I hate it, in fact I hate all social media but will keep it in the background in case it comes in handy.
MelissaLee1963 I have never mastered crochet and not sure I would want to now. I wouldn't wear crocheted clothing and other things seem a bit dated, old fashioned.
MelissaLee1963 my house is looking a bit dated now but would love to live in a quaint little cottage but with all mod cons of course!
Lynibis Nice little house in the Cotswolds eh?I'm a keen allotmenteer so a likkle kitchen garden would finish things off nicely.
