Do You Cook In Your House? What's On The Menu Tonight?
Ask a Question
I cook for MrsChimp nearly every day, but she can be a right pain because she always changes her mind about what she wants.
This evening, I should be cooking a roast beef dinner, but that's been the case on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, yesterday
We have a Telegram group for family and some others where we discuss what we're having for tea, but when I post now, no-one believes me because MrsChimp keeps on changing.
Anyway, let me know what your tea is today and whether it'll actually be made.
Tea tonight WILL be Vietnamese chicken with rice and veg. It's nearly always chicken (unless it's fish n chips) and we decide by lunch time what form it will take.
lilyflower Ooo! Sounds nice.
MrsChimp has changed her mind again, so everything is up in the air again
I must admit I am very lazy as I can't be bothered cooking for one most of the time. I have a friend round every saturday evening, and each son with family and granddaughter and her boyfriend round for meals so at least I cook then. The rest of the time it is plain and simple like some sacla sauce and a tin of tuna with pasta and lots of grated cheese on top. Other times a sandwich and a tin of soup does me.
Tonight I am having a chilli wrap with some mini breaded chicken fillets and mayo inside.
Iโm using up a butternut squash so just making a large pot of soup. Itโs in the oven as Iโm replying with onions, carrots and potato. Itโs easy as you donโt even peel the squash, just chop everything, drizzle with olive oil and either chilli or curry powder in a low oven to soften. Then blitz with water and stock. Serve with a fresh french stick .
MrsChimp update.........
Roast beef is off the menu again and a decision of bacon sandwiches is on the cards.
I feel like tearing my hair our sometimes
TheChimp you know you don't really mind. I had cheesy scrambled eggs due to dentist pulling tooth which I didn't expect OH had ALL the Vietnamese chicken!
From what I gather , no one cooks anymore ! Just use one of the myriad of "apps" with the seemingly permanent "offers" . I am quite capable of cooking meals myself (both healthy and unhealthy ! ) at a fraction of the price , and certainly in less than the delivery time . Sometimes I despair at the basic cooking abilities (or lack of ! ) of our modern "app" obsessed generation .
I have to agree. Today I got 30kg of chicken from local butcher who tells me he is only going to sell 5kg packs of chicken and bacon but make pies/cakes/ready meals as that is where he is making money, the meat side of the shop was not, customers want something quick and easy to put in oven/microwave. Step-sons partner has no idea which way the pan goes on cooker.
as the other half could not decide what he wanted to eat I popped to the local fish and chip shop for fish and chips
TheChimp absolutely yes! love it... wouldn't go back now.. works out about ยฃ4 a meal
Earlier I would have said vegetable curry as that's what I was planning to make, but the weather put me off. It's been really warm today and I just didn't fancy doing it so had beans on toast instead, quick and easy.
Last night I cooked a massive homemade bolognese which was planned and everyone ate it with pasta and spaghetti and the rest went into the freezer. I am the only the one who can change the menu. If the family do not like what I choose they have the bolognese!
eyeballkerry I'd love to have some room in the freezer to do some batch cooking, but I just keep buying stuff. I've been trying to empty it for the last 6 months so that I can buy a new one. It's driving MrsChimp nuts.
Not quite sure what to cook for lunch today Either a pasta bake or McDonald's, I think.
Tonight is definitely homemade broccoli and stilton soup with crusty baguettes.
TheChimp We had the same problem with the freezer, we kept filling it up. So we decided to actually eat what was in the freezer and clear it out. Best idea. Now we can see whatโs in the freezer and rotate better. Tonight we have homemade burgers and buns. ( My daughter makes the buns).
eyeballkerry Sounds nice.
I bought some burger presses around 5 years back and they are in the drawer where they have stayed along with all the other gadgets.
What % fat mince do you make the burgers with? I normally go for 10-15% as I find them too dry using the lean 5% one.
TheChimp I always purchase Waitrose Aberdeen Angus beef which has 10% fat. I add onion, an egg and change the seasoning depending how I feel.
eyeballkerry I really need to empty my freezer and actually eat whatโs in there or throw out stuff which has been in there for yonks! I have one of those American fridge freezers but it doesnโt have many drawers and everything falls out. It drives me nuts!
snoogans888 My freezer only has two drawers at the bottom and the other four shelves are open. Used to drive me mad but once arranged properly works well. I remember the old one I had with drawer and family members would yank the drawer open and then they crack.
eyeballkerry thatโs how mine is! Iโve used old cardboard boxes to put bags in and that has helped but it still feels like Iโm playing Jenga every time I need to get something out.
snoogans888 I used to take food out of their original boxes but that made things worse. I do for example freeze sausages in small boxes so they fit in better and easier to get out how many I need. I have made the mistake in the past and frozen too much together then you cant get the food apart.
After getting the run around from MrsChimp all week, I've just found out that my joint of beef went out of date yesterday.
I've put it in the oven and I will cook it for a little bit longer.
I'm sure it'll be ok
TheChimp love your way of thinking Chimp hope you did the smell test!
I made a beef casserole last night with crusty bread rolls and it's good old bacon, eggs, chips & beans tonight. (Minus the beans for me ).
PinkElephant26 Ah, some of the simplest teas are the best.
No beans?! How can you not like beans?
chelseaturpin Can't beat a shepherds/cottage pie. I do make one every so often.
I remember that in school it had to be cottage pie AND chips with lots of extra gravy
I do all the cooking in my house but I have to say Grandad C is very adaptable and will eat whatever is put in front of him! The downside is if I ask what he wants the usual reply is โwhatever is easiestโ
Most days its just pasta since its one of the rare meals everyone enjoys. Ordered take out today though
ยฃ2.99 for a pack of two large chicken burgers from Aldi. The best chicken burgers I have ever tasted; even better than KFC.
Easy peasy tea for me and MrsChimp tonight.
Getting a Harry Ramsdens steak pie delivered later which we'll have with peas, jersey royals and lashings of gravy. I'm just hoping that the pie will be as good as the fish that they do.
