Things Almost Looked Back to "Normal" Yesterday!

In the News

When I went out to buy some essentials yesterday I was surprised to see that there were lots of people everywhere in shops and on the pavement and the roads were busy.

Apart from the queues outside shops and people wearing masks, it almost looked like before the pandemic.

I guess other people needed to buy essentials as well or maybe they just had enough of staying inside.

People are getting fed up of this lockdown now, especially since reading that we could be on lockdown for the rest of the year. Whilst I don't think this lockdown should be lifted all at once, I do think it should be a gradual process with some rules; such as keeping social distancing and mandatory face masks when out in public. Having more of these tests would also help a great deal, but most people aren't even being tested, so will need to stay in lockdown.

As the weather gets better, more and more people will be out. And then you’ve got the other countries who’ve lifted lockdown, or their citizens are rebelling against it...it gives people ideas...

I went out in the car to pick up our click and collect from Tesco. The roads were really empty, never seen them so quiet and even Tesco car park was really quiet. But with the weather getting better and being told that the restrictions could be in place till Christmas, people will start taking more risks and going out more as they will get fed up of lockdown. Yes lockdown can be boring, especially when it lasts for months at a time but it is necessary and we need to think about others as well as ourselves.

Just to chip in here...

I have always said that I think the lockdown should be in place for at least 3 months and then there should be a phased easing. As I have an underlying condition, I shall be self-isolating for at least 3 months. Even after that time, I doubt I will be mixing much until the science tells me to do so. More data and facts are what's needed.

I completely understand the strategy of the UK government: stay home, protect the NHS, save lives. However, I fear without herd immunity, this will drag on to the end of the year and next.

I think peeps just need to accept they need to be mindful of others and do what they are being asked to do. It really is not that difficult.

Xx

Ceebers A lot of things are difficult for a worryingly large proportion of the population. It's a lack of lateral thinking.

Looking at the amount of people going around where I live it looks like people either don't listen to the news and missed the lockdown extension to 7 May or they think F*** it, we've done 3 weeks and stuff everyone else.

Been 'normal' here since the start.

Neighbours are just speaking face to face.

To be fair the lockdown round here is being observed very well from what I've seen . However I live in a large Market Town and the few Flats in the town are 3 floors maximum therefore over 95% of the population have a garden or at least a yard .

My heart goes out to those who are trapped in large blocks of flats for the majority of the time .

I suppose that supermarket shopping has become an event to look forward to for many households and round here at least people queue in good humour and observe the Social distancing guidelines .

I'm sure many of the "entitled Snowflake generation " don't even realise there is a lockdown . Prior to the lockdown when groups did gather they were too busy checking their phones to talk or interact with each other . Even on occasion I would see a group of 5 or 6 sitting round a table in the Pub (Halcyon Days !) not speaking ,all totally engrossed with their phones .

Snowflakes , just imagine if this had happened 40 odd years ago ? Before computers , mobile phones , Twitter , Facebook and fake news that powers an entire generation these days !
