Do You Think Fuel Prices Are a Rip off ?
Ask a Question
When the 1st lockdown came there was a distinct drop in vehicles on the roads and in turn fuel prices dropped as people wasnt using there vehicles .
But now the lockdown is here again and the roads are as busier as ever and it made me think that in 2000 we had a fuel strike when fuel prices were much lower and now being below a £1 a litre is a pipe dream .Do you think fuel prices are a rip off ?
When you consider that the prices used to be £1, and lower, for a gallon YES it is a complete rip off. We are taxed far to heavily on many things - this is just one of them.
Yes it is ridiculous, and like tumble spots says it’s because of all the tax! I remember when I was a little girl and the litres used to go up more than the ££ when my parents got fuel!
Yes, of course. they’re deliberately high so the government can make as much money from the taxes, and in turn they say they do it to deter people from petrol cars to work on the environmental initiatives...
Saw this headline today London petrol stations cash in on fuel crisis as price per litre soars to £3 - it would definitely make you think twice if your journey is necessary
I heard (think it was on radio) that several times more fuel was sold last weekend than is usually sold.
That's very similar to what happened with toilet rolls last year.
(just to let people, who haven't noticed, know that this is a continuation of a topic from 10 months ago - not involving the present alleged shortage)
In order to recruit more drivers sounds like HGV drivers wages are increasing and of course this will have a knock on effect to fuel and other goods. It will be very inflationary. However on the other side by employing people based in the UK less wages will be exported as was previously the case so will improve our trade deficit.
We really need to have a full review of our economy and how we are going to return to a trading surplus and pay off our debts. Every political party in this country seems to have short term thinking with no real long term planning. It doesn't matter if you are left or right in your politics you still need competent government.
Yes it is a Rip off, but it is an easy way to collect tax. Still better than getting wet on a horse.
