There will almost certainly be a third spike hopefully by that time we will have some sort of heard immunity or please god a vaccination

Herd immunity is exceptionally unlikely - herd immunity requires a substantial number of people having developed immunity AND KEPT IT.

There are few indications that any immunity when developed lasts more than a few months.

I read somewhere that only about 1% of victims who've been tested 3 months later have the necessary anti-bodies to give them any immunity.

Even vaccinations, if successful ones become available, will probably be short lived and need repeating at intervals.

Only 50% of flu vaccines are effective. There are so many strains and it keeps mutating, covid will be no different.

Unfortunately I do think things will be the same. Too many people are ignoring the rules/guidelines, and many have been all along. Unless something is done about that, I don't see how things can improve.

Well people just can't follow rules look at Wales for example already has no high Street due to high taxes this is going to finish them. But as Lynibis mentioned so many related topics can we just end this subject now. And have some proper topics where people have interested in

I agree. No offence to the OP as I am sure he/she meant well, but I am personally sick of hearing about anything covid related; which has been the main topic of discussion since Feb or March. How about talking about something more positive for a change? 😊

I remember feeling the same way about Brexit this time last year.

Ann1984 Exactly Ann - even Television isn't obsessed with Christmas yet, and burying heads in sand regarding Covid 19 won't make it go away.

Sorry I disagree - This is the single most important subject in the world today . If even a few dozen members read it and are motivated to educate themselves about the virus and why / how it spreads then that's maybe a hundred lives saved ?

If Crossroads v Emmerdale or Heinz v HP beans or Xmas decorations is a more important subject then I'm out !

Hopefully one day those inane subjects will once again become the most important things to think and chat about - Not now , but that's just my opinion .

Sorry but if we ignore it - it won't just go away !

And to answer your question . Maybe if we all started taking it seriously , and didn't treat it as an excuse for a party , perhaps just perhaps we may gain control of it sometime next spring by which time a vaccine may be around to help us .

It won't even be contained until everybody realises that totally unnecessary proximity to others should be avoided.

It seems to me you are preaching to the converted and ramming something home over and over can often have the opposite of the desired effect. It is NOT necessary for every other topic to be covid related, nor is it necessary for inane topics to take it's place.

There are a huge amount of new members contributing to chat and repeat topics are rife, maybe a few seconds doing a search for repeats on search would not go amiss, it would also be nice if they replied to those who bother to comment, but of course 20 points is 20 points so chat will always suffer because of the points.

I think we can avoid another lockdown if people are sensible and consider everyone not just themselves

If human beings were capable of that we would not be in this situation as we would not have ruined our planet in the name of wealth and power.

This is the time to have lock down.. at least in our area which is high risk and people can not social distance, because it is London...

Wondering where is the police when people having fun near the river...drinking...drugging...etc...not in 6s but in 3s and 2s, but still why people can not stay put...It will not last forever...can party after

Unfortunately it probably will last forever. If not in the form of covid but there will follow other pandemics if we do not get the planet in order. I will not repeat myself but if you read my topic titled David Attenborough: Extinction it explains very clearly why that is the case.

I tend to agree with Lynibis. The most likely thing is that we're not going to wipe out Covid and we're just going to have to coexist with it like we do with things like seasonal flu and cancer. I anticipate that things are going to be ugly for a while yet. We're tending to forget that in the long term, we might end up with a better way of living than we had before.

Hopefully people will take care of their health, boost their immune system. The body is more than capable of fighting back, yes look after the vulnerable&elderly, their health should be priority.

Lockdowns arent realistic in the long run.
