What Time Would You Go Back to....temporarily

Other

As a student of history i often daydream about going back in time and giving some of our historical tyrants a good ticking off.

But of course they wouldn't listen to a mere woman and I would probably be executed so it would have to be an astral plane type visit.

I would whisper in their ears, frighten the life out of them and make them aware of how they will be perceived in the future. I would probably start with Henry VIII, one of the nastier monarchs, though not many have anything to be proud of.

I would take an iPad or similar and show them photos of the future too!

I'd go back to being a little girl and having more time with my dad. Daddy cuddles and that feeling that everything will be alright! Sorry not very historical but not sure I'd want to go back where women were not treated equally.

That is lovely, and historical to you. Any time prior to the present counts as historical. I could never get my head around my granddaughter studying WW2 at school as to me it was only a few years before I was born. But of course it has well and truly passed into the realms of history now.

I didn't want to start another thread, and will get no points for this, (maxed out), but would love to know what modern invention you would take back, and to what era. Couldn't be electrical as you couldn't plug it in.

I would take a pile of books that would show them how to invent stuff, and lots of cookery books, kids books too.

I would love to go back and meet Jane Austen, Charlotte Bronte, Charles Dickens, Shakespeare and talk to them about their works and see how different life was back then. I would bring a copy of the most recently published version of their books to show them how they lasted.

I would also love to go back to my grandparents generation and meet my grandad as he died before I was born.

Great choices. I have been watching Sanditon but find it a bit of a disappointment, although I realise it was Jane Austin's unfinished work. And yes it would be great to meet a few ancestors, I had no grandparents at all!

Lynibis I haven't watched Sanditon yet. I have been wondering how they were going to finish it, I remember reading Sanditon and thinking I would like to know how it ends but only Jane Austen would know that and that is something I would ask her about.

Lynibis I'm glad it's not just me then. I am finding Sanditon very luke warm and wondering just how much was completed by Jane Austen because the characters, so far, have been very 'milk and water'. They lack the usual meat-and-bones strength of her other works.

I would go back to a day about 25 years ago before my brother became ill with schizophrenia and long before my grandmother got dementia and just have a nice normal family day 💗
