Transplant Science Advance
In the News
A genetically altered pig called Galsafe was used to transplant a kidney onto(not into)a brain dead patient who had previously given consent. It worked without rejection. This is a break through .The success of using an animal organ in a human patient xenotransplantation without the human body immediately rejecting the animal tissue is a milestone in this area of research that has been decades in the making. It's kinda weird but it has enormous future potential. What do we all think?

its certainly an interesting development - but it does raise a question for some - if you were a commited vegan - would you accept a pigs kidney if it were offered as your only hope of treatment? Assuming that the pig hasn't given consent for this procedure.
It will raise the same issue for several religions too which see the pig in particular as a problem.
