Trolley Problem Gamblers Edition

Ask a Question

So you may have heard about the trolley problem.

If not, it is this questions where there is this trolley/train heading down the track. In front of it there are 2 paths. One of the paths has one person tied to it, the other has 5 tied to it. You have control over which way the train will go. Would you kill one person or five.

But the tricky part is, what if that one person is your mother, father, spouse, kid or anyone you really like while the others are strangers.

But also, what would you do if the five are your favourite people and the one person is a stranger.

But my question is. What if there are 5 tracks. One with one person tied to it. One with 5. And the other three are empty. You can either do nothing and let the one person die. Or pull the lever saving the one person but changing the trolley to any other track. There is a 3/4 chance no one dies but 1/4 that 5 people die.

What would yout do?

What do you think of this?

I think I would have to pull the leaver, and console myself that there is a 75% chance that nobody dies.

As for the start of the post, I think the natural response would be to try and save your loved ones.

As this is not a real life situation I decline to make a choice lol!

I'm far happier making the decision knowing it's not real life 😅

What a moral dilemma! I think I would agree with blacklabrador and pull the lever and trust in fate.

I agree with some of the comments above, I would also pull the lever and hope for an empty track.
